Men’s Basketball release 2020-21 non-conference schedule

SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Texas State men's basketball team has released its nine-game non-conference schedule for the 2020-21 season Tuesday morning.

Four of the nine non-conference games will be played at Strahan Arena, including the season opener at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Bobcats will then hit the road for a 2 p.m. game on Nov. 28 to challenge Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. A couple days later, TXST will play at Mississippi State on Nov. 30 at the Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss. before returning home for a 2 p.m. tip on Dec. 5 vs. Incarnate Word at Strahan Arena.

A bout with No. 19 Texas will take place on Dec. 9 at the Frank Erwin Center to jump start the second half of the non-conference slate. The Bobcats will then play two consecutive home games beginning with a 4 p.m. contest on Dec. 12 vs. Our Lady of the Lake, and then a 7 p.m. game on Dec. 15 against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The non-conference slate will conclude at the University of Denver Multi-team Event where the Bobcats will take on Denver at 8 p.m. (CT) on Dec. 19, and then a 2 p.m. (CT) game on Dec. 21 vs. Northern Arizona at the Magness Arena in Denver, Colo.

"I am excited to have the final schedule," said interim head coach Terrence Johnson. "We have quality regional opponents like Texas and Mississippi State, and a tournament in Denver that we believe will be very competitive and get us ready for conference play."

The Bobcats are coming off a successful 21-11 season that featured a 13-7 record in conference play, and a 15-3 mark at home which matched the most wins in Strahan [Coliseum] Arena since the 1993-94 season when the team went 15-0. After defeating Appalachian State 85-68 in San Marcos as the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Texas State was heading to New Orleans for a rematch against No. 2 seed South Alabama before the tournament - and ultimately the season – was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Coach Johnson will lead the Bobcats this season and has been with the program since 2015 as an assistant coach. Johnson was an instrumental piece in the development of former player and the program's current all-time leading scorer Nijal Pearson, who became the program's first All-American since the Bobcats joined the NCAA Division I ranks.
