Bobcats Travel to Troy For Second Sun Belt Conference Game on Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas — After completing its third non-conference game, the Texas State football team (1-3) returns to Sun Belt Conference action when it travels to Troy (1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 10. The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3 and can be heard on KTSW (89.9-FM in San Marcos) or the TuneIn App.

LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Texas State enters this weekend's game with a 1-0 Sun Belt Conference record after knocking off ULM, 38-17, in Monroe, La., on Sept. 19. This season marks the second straight year that Texas State has opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 1-0 league record.

Texas State will be looking for its first two-game Sun Belt winning streak since knocking off Arkansas State, 45-27, and Georgia State, 54-31, on Nov. 20 and 29, respectively, in 2014.

A win for Texas State on Saturday would mark the first time the Bobcats have ever started 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference action.

Gavin Graham enters Saturday's game leading the Sun Belt with 6.0 tackles for loss (four solo, four assists) through four games.

Jeremiah Haydel is one of eight FBS players who has returned a punt for a touchdown this season following his game-tying 91-yard return in the closing minutes against UTSA.  He leads the Bobcat receivers with 17 catches for 237 yards and three touchdowns.

Junior college transfer Brock Sturges and redshirt freshman Calvin Hill both rank among the top nine rushing leaders in the Sun Belt Conference. They enter the Troy game having combined for 456 yards and five touchdowns in Texas State's first four games after recording 77 yards and one TD at Boston College. Hill enters the Troy game ranked seventh in the Sun Belt with 243 yards and three touchdowns on 43 carries this season.

Texas State's defense has four interceptions and leads the Sun Belt with six forced turnovers. Jarron Morris has two interceptions to rank third among Sun Belt leaders in interceptions per game after intercepting a pass at Boston College.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS
Troy will be playing its first home game and first Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday.

The Trojans are 1-1 after opening the season with a 47-14 win at Middle Tennessee on Sept. 19, before falling 48-7 at BYU on Sept. 26.

Troy will play its first game since Sept. 26 after its "Battle of the Belt" contest at South Alabama was postponed.

B.J. Smith leads Troy's rushing attack this season with 97 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Charles Strong has rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown, while Kimani Vidal has run for 52 yards and another TD.

Gunnar Watson has thrown for 410 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, completing 47-of-70 passes with one interception. Jacob Free also tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass on his lone completion of the season.

Brett Clark leads the Trojan receivers with eight catches for 67 yards. Khalil McClain and Tyler Hussey are the only Troy players with a touchdown reception in the first two games. McClain has seven catches for a team-best 84 yards, Tray Eafford has caught seven passes for 82 yards, while Hussey caught Free's eight-yard TD pass.

Defensively, the Trojans have forced four turnovers with Terence Dunlap intercepting two passes. Craig Slocum has another interception, and Orlando Lacey recovered a fumble that was forced by Javon Solomon.

SERIES HISTORY
Texas State and Troy will meet for the 11th time in a series that began on Oct. 19, 1996. The Trojans won that game, 24-13, at Troy, while Texas State won its first home game, 31-17, on Oct. 4, 1997.

Troy is currently riding an eight-game winning streak in the series following Texas State's win in 1997.  The Bobcats have an 0-5 record in Troy.

Texas State looks to win its first game against Troy since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.
