LAFAYETTE, La. – A headed in goal off a corner kick by Louisiana was the lone goal scored as the Texas State soccer team fell 1-0 at the Regin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats are now 2-7-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 5-3-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Renny Moore had the first shot of the contest for TXST late in the 27th minute. Her attempt came on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box from the left corner. The senior's shot was knocked down by the goalkeeper and bounced out of bounds for a corner kick.
Early in the 31st minute, Karleen Bedre took a shot that clanked off the left post. The follow-up attempt from Olivia Gelpi went wide right of frame.
A little over four minutes later,
Olivia Wright nearly scored her first collegiate goal. She put press on a defender shielding the ball for the goalkeeper to pick up. The freshman was able to toe poke the ball and it deflected off a Cajun and just past the left post.
Just over a minute into the second half,
Emma Jones took a rip from about 20 yards out. The ball was blocked by a defender as it hit off the Cajuns' hands as they were raised to protect her face while standing int the 18-yard box.
The Cajuns broke the scoreless match when Hailey Huffman headed in a corner kick from Bedre midway through the 58th minute.
Ally Kewish had the best look for Texas State the rest of the way during the 83rd minute. Her long attempt was caught by the goalkeeper.
With just under two minutes to play,
Sydney Kammer received a cross at the right corner of the six-yard box. The senior was unable to completely turn on her shot attempt and the ball went wide of the right post.
Pacing the Bobcats with two shots was
Mackenzie Smith. Putting an attempt on goal were
Avery Thies, Kewish and Moore.
In goal,
Beth Agee made six saves to increase her season total to 55. She is six saves shy of match
Heather Martin's 2016 mark for the third most by a freshman in program history.
