Kammer and Peschel Score in Win Over Warhawks

MONROE, La. – The Texas State soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory over ULM Friday night at Brown Stadium to complete the first half of its Sun Belt Conference schedule.

With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 2-6-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play while the Warhawks fall to 0-4-0 and 0-3-0 in the Sun Belt.

ULM's first shot of the match was a dangerous as Beth Agee had to make a diving stop and push the ball out of bounds midway through the fourth minute.

Despite the Warhawks taking the first three shots of the match, it was TXST that found the back of the net first. Facing a high defensive line from ULM backline, Emma Jones played a through ball to Sydney Kammer. The senior then drove nearly 30 yards down the field and slotted her shot past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season halfway through the 11th minute.

A little over two minutes into the second half the Warhawks knotted the score 1-1 on a goal by Lena Goppel.

Off a corner kick for the Warhawks, Kathryn Yarbrough nearly scored but Alana Clark was there to clear the ball off the line early in the 64th minute.

Nearly 40 seconds later after the defensive scare, Kiara Gonzales played a diagonal ball to the left side of the field. Bailey Peschel beat a defender to the ball and put her attempt past the goalkeeper to put Texas State in front 2-1.

The Bobcats had two more chances to increase their advantage. The first came from Wimberley Wright late in the 78th minute that saw the ULM keeper make a stop at the bottom left corner. Gonzales put an attempt on goal with just under three minutes on the clock that was also stopped by the goalkeeper.

Pacing TXST with two shots apiece were Olivia Wright and Kammer.

Agee made two saves on the night with one coming in each half.

Next up for the Bobcats is their final road conference match of the season on Sunday in a rematch against Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
