Texas State, Fold of Honor to pay tribute to Michael Davis

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State University women's golf program will honor Michael W. Davis, an Army Corporal assigned to the 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), and 25th Infantry Division, who died May 21, 2007 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when multiple improvised explosive devices detonated near their vehicle, during the 2019-20 season.

Also killed were Staff Sgt. Shannon V. Weaver and Sgt. Brian D. Ardron.

The Bobcats will honor Davis, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, through the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program.

The Bronze Star Medal is a United States decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

The Purple Heart is a US military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members

Cpl. Davis is survived by his wife Taryn. He also leaves behind his mother Sonya Davis Kennedy; father Myron Warner Davis; sisters Natalie Davis and Jessica Bell; brother-in-law Freeman Bell and beloved nephew Grayson "lil Mikey" Bell.

Throughout the season the Bobcats' golf bag will carry Davis' name and branch of service along with a story card that provides background information on him. At the end of the season, the Texas State women's golf team will auction off the bag. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program.
