Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Play at Northwestern State and Hosting McNeese

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule this weekend with two matches. The Bobcats travel to take on Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex and follow by hosting McNeese at the Bobcat Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
 
Live stats will be available for both matches while no video stream will be provided for either match.
 
Last Weekend: The Bobcats saw its 17-match unbeaten streak come to an end on in a 2-1 loss at UTEP last Friday. Mackenzie Smith scored TXST's lone goal in the 20 minute off a corner kick by Renny Moore. In goal, Heather Martin recorded her second straight contest with six saves.
 
Texas State followed by playing to a 1-1 draw at New Mexico State. Haley Groff headed home the Bobcats' goal in the 40 minute off a cross from Jessica Pikoff. Setting a career-high with seven saves was Kathryn Budde, who played the final 65 minutes of the match.
 
Scouting Northwestern State: The Lady Demons are 1-5-0 on the season after picking up their first win of the year on Sunday against Jackson State (1-0). NSU dropped its first five contests to Baylor, Grambling, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and ULM.
 
Olivia Dragulcevich leads the team with two goals, including the lone tally in the win over the Tigers. She also paces the Lady Demons with 11 shots and seven shots on goal. Others to find the back of the net this season have been Jalen Donaldson and Kiara Padilla.
 
Between the posts, Acelya Aydogmus has started the first four matches. She has allowed 13 goals for a 3.42 GAA while making 16 saves for a .522 save percentage. The sophomore is a transfer from Troy and made five saves while giving up the lone goal of the match against the Bobcats in the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
 
Kayla Bomben enters having made three appearances with two starts in goal. She has a 1.37 GAA having allowed three goals while sporting a .625 save percentage with five stops.
 
All-Time vs. Lady Demons: Texas State leads the all-time series 16-8-3. The Bobcats have won the last eight meetings and are undefeated in the previous 11 contests. When playing NSU on the road, TXST is 4-5-2 all-time.
 
Last time the teams met was on Sept. 1, 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana and ended in a 3-2 double overtime victory for TXST. Rachel Grout scored the golden goal with 28 seconds left on the clock off a pass from Jordan Kondikoff.
 
Aug. 23, 2013 was the last time the programs played in Natchitoches, Louisiana. That day saw TXST leave with a 3-1 win.
 
The Lady Demons' last win in the series was on Nov. 4, 2005 by a 3-1 score. The match was in Natchitoches and was a semifinal contest of the Southland Conference Tournament.
 
Scouting McNeese: The Cowgirls begin the weekend with a 2-3-0 record. Last week saw them fall 3-2 in double overtime to Louisiana Tech and get shutout 7-0 at Arkansas. Wins this year for MCN have been against Prairie View A&M (3-0) and Southern (4-1). Prior to facing Texas State, the Cowgirls will host Jackson State Friday night.
 
Anna Watson leads MCN with three goals, two match-winning goals, two assists, eight points, 10 shots and seven shots on goal. Havana Johnson has tallied two scores on six shots. Others than have found the back of the net are Olivia Broussard, Delana Friesen, Kelly Morrow and Mariah Ruelas.
 
Starting all five matches in goal has been Kelly Hines. She enters the weekend sporting a 2.61 GAA with 10 goals allowed and a .565 save percentage having made 13 saves. Gabrielle Christy has appeared in two contests off the bench. She played a half against Prairie View A&M and the final 75:18 against the Razorbacks. The sophomore has a 1.50 GAA and a .800 save percentage with eight stops, seven of which came at Arkansas.
 
All-Time vs. Cowgirls: Texas State has a 17-10-1 advantage in the all-time series but has seen McNeese dominate it as of late, winning the last five meetings. When playing in San Marcos, the Bobcats are 8-5-0 against the Cowgirls.
 
Last year in Lake Charles, Louisiana, MCN pulled out a 2-1 win with the match-winning tally in the 52nd minute. The lone score for TXST came from Moore in the 17 minute with an assist credited to Kondikoff.
 
The last time that the Bobcats won a match in the series was Oct. 21, 2011 at home by the score of 2-1.
