McMahon Throws Complete Game in 3-2 Win at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. – Sophomore right-hander Hunter McMahon threw his second complete game of the season as the Texas State baseball team (30-13, 14-6 Sun Belt) defeated Louisiana (20-26, 8-12 Sun Belt) 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Russo Park. McMahon struck out a season-high 11 and did not walk a batter as the Bobcats won their ninth straight game.

With the victory, McMahon improved to 5-4 on the season after he gave up two runs on seven hits, three of which came after the second inning. Jack Burk (1-2) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings.

John Wuthrich was the lone TXST batter with multiple hits on the day with two. The sophomore outfielder also scored two of the team's runs with the other coming courtesy of Travon Benton.

The Bobcats struck first in the second inning when Dalton Shuffield recorded the third straight single to start the frame to plate the first run of the game. Two batters later, Ryan Newman hit a RBI single to left field to increase the lead to 2-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Ragin' Cajuns responded with two runs to tie the game.

Wuthrich led off the fourth by doubling down the left field line into the corner. After advancing within 90 feet of home on a wild pitch, he scored when UL starting pitcher Jack Burk was called for balk as TXST retook the lead for good 3-2.

McMahon shut down UL as he allowed one hit in the third, fourth and eighth innings. Over the final seven innings, he also recorded seven of his strikeouts.

The series against UL concludes on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
