Jaxon Williams flew out, the next three Bobcats were all walked to bring in a run and force a Ragin' Cajun pitching change.
Despite the new pitcher, UL still couldn't find the zone as
Travon Benton was walked to bring in the second run of the inning. Valentine battled and hit a deep fly to score a run and advance the other two runners into scoring position. On a 0-2 pitch, Faison ripped a single to left field to bring in two more runs as TXST took a 5-0 lead.
The Cajuns answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame on a single from Daniel Lahare.
A solo home run by O'Neal Lochridge in the second cut Texas State's lead down to two runs after the second. UL added another run in the third to make it a 5-4 contest.
Hubbard started the fourth off by ripping a double down the left field line. The next pitch was sent back up the middle for a RBI single by Williams, who advanced to second on the throw home. The Rosenberg, Texas native moved up to third on a fly out to right field.
With a shift on,
Will Hollis hit a slow grounder to the second baseman and beat it out for a RBI infield single to increase the lead to 7-4.
The sixth began with Hollis and Wuthrich drawing walks and moving in to scoring position on a Shuffield sacrifice bunt. A free pass to Benton loaded the bases for Valentine, who laced a single through the left side to bring home two runs to increase the lead to five.
In the bottom of the seventh, UL started off with four consecutive singles that brought in one run and loaded the bases. Woodard was able to induce a ground out to
Ryan Newman at first to stop the single streak that saw a run score. Another induced ground out, this time by Theriot, allowed the Cajuns to tack on their third run of the frame. A single by Orynn Vellion brought in another run to TXST's advantage to 9-8.
UL was able to load the bases with two outs. Theriot was able to get Brennan Breaux swinging on a 3-2 count to end the rally.
Wuthrich led off the next half inning by drawing a walk and moved into scoring position on a ground out to the second baseman. Shuffield ripped the first pitch he saw to right field and Wuthrich got under the tag to add an insurance run.
Theriot shut the Cajuns down over the final two innings as he closed out the game with a strikeout.
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip down I-35 to take on UTSA for the third time this season. Tuesday's game will see first pitch at 6 p.m.
