SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (9-13, 0-2 Sun Belt) lost for the fourth-straight game in a 5-3 ballgame against the No. 11 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (17-3, 2-0 Sun Belt) on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Texas State claimed an early 3-1 lead over Louisiana after plating three unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from freshman designated player
Samara Lagway scored the first run of the game for the Bobcats.
- Freshman outfielder
Jordyn Smith bounced out to the second baseman to score the second run, while junior outfielder
Christiana McDowell beat out a single to shortstop to plate the third run of the inning.
- Louisiana regained the momentum in the top of the fourth inning with a game-tying two-run home run to right center field. The hit knocked starting pitcher, junior
Dalilah Barrera, out of the game after 3.1 innings in the circle. She struck out one Cajun batter.
- The Cajuns would tack on the decisive two runs on an RBI double in the sixth, followed by an RBI groundout in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Bobcats managed only five hits in the game against a talented Louisiana pitching staff. TXST has strung together only nine hits in the first two games of the three-game series with the Cajuns.
- McDowell led the charge for Texas State with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. She added a walk, a stolen base and an RBI in the game.
- Senior pitcher
Krista Jacobs (0-2) was credited with the loss in a relief roll. She logged 3.2 innings of work out of the bullpen and surrendered two earned runs on five hits. She struck out two batters.
NOTABLES
- The setback against the Cajuns gives Texas State 13 losses on the season. During the historic 2018 season, TXST lost only 13 games throughout the regular season.
- McDowell tallied her 11th multi-hit game of the season, the most among Bobcat hitters. A career .252 hitter, McDowell is hitting .478 through the first 22 games of the season.

- The Bobcats look to avoid the three-game sweep against the Cajuns as the series finale is slated for a 12:30 p.m. first pitch on March 10 at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
