Texas State swept by Louisiana after 7-4 setback

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (9-14, 0-3 Sun Belt) lost for the fifth-consecutive contest in a 7-4 ballgame against the No. 11 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (18-3, 3-0 Sun Belt) on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS
- Louisiana jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four complete innings. The first two runs game via solo home runs from junior infielder Alissa Dalton and senior catcher Lexie Comeaux. The next four runs came on the base paths as the Cajuns were able to score on a fielder's choice, an RBI single and a pair of stolen bases.
- The momentum of the game flipped in a bizarre fifth inning. Louisiana removed junior pitcher Summer Ellyson to begin the inning despite the preseason pitcher of the year throwing a no-hitter. Freshman pitcher Kandra Lamb was tasked with closing out the game. She was unable to find the strike zone as she walked four and hit another Bobcat batter, all while recording only two outs.
- Sophomore infielder Tara Oltmann tagged a two-run single through the left side of the Cajun infield to bring the score to 6-4. Ellyson returned to the circle to get the final out of the inning, stranding two base runners.
- Texas State did not place a runner on base for the remainder of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Bobcats reached base via hit just once against the Cajuns. For the three-game set, LA pitching yielded only 10 hits.
- Despite the low hit number, Texas State showed discipline at the plate and coax seven walks. Both junior outfielder Christiana McDowell and sophomore infielder ArieAnn Bell drew two walks each.
- Senior pitcher Krista Jacobs (0-3) was credited with the loss for the second-straight day. She started the game and lasted only 2.1 innings. Jacobs allowed two runs on two hits with one strikeout.
- Freshman pitcher Cassie Valdez pitched the final 4.2 innings in relief. She allowed four earned runs (five total) on five hits and two walks. Valdez struck out three Cajuns.

NOTABLES
- Texas State has not lost five in a row since dropping six straight during the 2014 season. The Bobcats finished 26-30 that year, the last season in which the team has not reached at least 32 victories.
- The Bobcats have not started 0-3 in league play since losing the first three contests of the 2013 conference slate. Texas State, a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) at the time, lost three straight against UTSA.
- McDowell saw her five-game hitting streak come to an end. However, after being walked twice, she has been on base in six-consecutive games. She has successfully reached base, via walk or hit, in 20-of-23 games played this season.

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will continue league play with a three-game series against South Alabama. The set will begin at 6 p.m. on March 15 from Jaguar Field.
