Timely hit eludes TXST in 4-1 loss to Baylor

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (9-11) could not come up with the clutch hit in a 4-1 loss to the Baylor Bears (11-8) on Wednesday evening at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS
- Freshman infielder Kassidy Krupit of Baylor broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a two-out, three-run home run down the right field line.
- Junior outfielder Christiana McDowell scored the lone Texas State run off a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- The Bobcats brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning after drawing two walks and being hit by a pitch. McDowell flied out to right field for the final out of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore pitcher Meagan King (4-7) was handed the loss after allowing three earned runs (four total) on nine hits. She did not issue a walk in 6.1 innings of work, while she fanned four Baylor batters.
- Texas State managed just four hits in the ballgame, scattered throughout the final four innings. The Bobcats recorded three walks and left six batters on base.
- Each of the first six batters in the original Texas State lineup reached base successfully, three via hit and three via walk.

NOTABLES
- The game marked the seventh time in nine tries that the Bobcats have failed to score more than three runs in a game. Five of the seven games have seen TXST plate one run or fewer.
- Including the Baylor game, Texas State has brought the tying run to the plate in seven of the team's 11 losses of the season.
- The 11 losses suffered by Texas State before the start of conference play since 2013, TXST's lone season in the Western Athletic Conference.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DUGOUT
"We are struggling with runners in scoring position," head coach Ricci Woodard said. "We need to do a better job of competing on every pitch. Credit Baylor for taking advantage of a couple of pitches. We did not do that tonight, and have struggled with that all season."

ON DECK
- The Bobcats face No. 11 Louisiana to open the Sun Belt Conference season over the weekend. The three-game weekend series with the Cajuns will begin at 6 p.m. on March 8.
