SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (18-15, 7-4 Sun Belt) walked away with a 4-3 victory over the Georgia State Panthers (5-28, 3-8 Sun Belt) at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
KEY MOMENTS
- Junior outfielder
Christiana McDowell scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning. McDowell also preserved the lead with a spectacular play in center to end the GSU threat in the top of the sixth.
- Georgia State evened the score on an RBI single from sophomore catcher Alyssa Brumelow in the top of the fourth inning.
- Texas State regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cats loaded the bases in the frame and drew a pair of walks to bring the score to 3-1.
- The lead did not last long as the Panthers plated a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, 3-3. Sophomore infielder Caitlin Ray and senior outfielder Reagan Davis each drove in a run.

ArieAnn Bell scored the game-winning run in the bottom the seventh frame. She reached via walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a fielder's choice play. Senior outfielder
Kennedy Cline bounced into a fielder's choice to second to score Bell from third.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Despite recording only three hits in the ballgame, Texas State applied constant pressure to the Georgia State pitching. The Bobcats drew 11 walks and were hit by a pitch.
- GSU outhit TXST by a count of 7-3. The Panthers hit .259 (7-for-27) at the plate, while the Bobcats finished the game at .136 (3-for-22).
- Junior infielder
Hailey MacKay reached base three times during the contest. She was walked twice and delivered a double with one out in the bottom of the third inning.
NOTABLES
- McDowell leads the Bobcats and ranks inside the top-five among Sun Belt leaders with 30 runs scored on the season. The run output matches her 2018 season and is five runs shy of her career-high of 35 runs scored as a freshman.
- The triumph gives the Bobcats a season-best eight-consecutive victories. TXST had three such winning streaks during the 2018 campaign.
- Texas State now holds a lead in the all-time series between the two Sun Belt foe at 10-9. The Bobcats have defeated the Panthers in the last five contests dating back to the 2017 season.

- The Bobcats will go for the three-game sweep against Georgia State with game three starting at noon on March 31.
