Texas State blanks Georgia State, 5-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (17-15, 6-4 Sun Belt) shutout the Georgia State Panthers (5-28, 3-7 Sun Belt), 5-0, at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Friday night behind a dominant effort in the circle from sophomore pitcher Meagan King.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Bobcats pounced on the Panthers for two quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior catcher Haleigh Davis drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field. Senior outfielder Kennedy Cline followed with a single down the left field line to plate the second run.
- Freshman designated player Samara Lagway doubled the Bobcat lead to 4-0 with a two-run double to the wall in right center field.
- Sophomore infielder Tara Oltmann capped the TXST offensive attack with an RBI single to left in the bottom of the sixth inning. The run brought the game to the final score of 5-0.
- Georgia State managed only one hit against King, a bang-bang play at first base. Senior outfielder Remington Hasty barely legged out a bunt in the top of the second inning for the lone Panther hit.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- King (10-8) earned her sixth-straight victory in the circle. She pitched all 7.0 innings and allowed one hit and one walk. She struck out five GSU batters in the game. King allowed one base runner to advance to second but stranded her in scoring position.
- Junior outfielder Christiana McDowell racked up another multi-hit game as she went 2-for-4 at the dish with a stolen base and two runs scored.
- Oltmann connected on a pair of hits in three trips to the plate. She drove in one run.
- Texas State hit .375 (3-for-8) with runners in scoring position, while Georgia State did not register a hit in two chances with a scoring threat.

NOTABLES
- McDowell has notched 14 multi-hit games this season to lead the Bobcats. She has successfully reached base via hit at least two times in three of the last four games.
- King has allowed one earned run or less to plate in each of her last five starts. She has tossed three shutouts during the five-game stretch. Also, during the five-game run King has fanned 19 batters and surrendered just two walks.
- The win evens the all-time series between the two schools at 9-9. Texas State has won the last four contests against Georgia State dating back to the 2017 season.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DUGOUT
- "We wanted to get the offense going early," head coach Ricci Woodard said. "We wanted to take advantage of playing with an early lead. We did that with two runs in the first inning. Meagan really spun the ball well and the defense was solid behind her."

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will continue the three-game weekend series against Georgia State with game two starting at 2 p.m. on March 30.
