Bobcats strike late, defeat ULM 2-0

MONROE, La. – The Texas State softball team (15-15, 5-4 Sun Belt) squeaked by the ULM Warhawks (4-26, 1-8 Sun Belt) in a defensive struggle at the ULM Softball Complex. Texas State scored two late runs to defeat ULM 2-0.

KEY MOMENTS
- Senior infielder Mari Cranek shot a leadoff double down the third baseline in the top of the sixth inning. She was left stranded on third base. Cranek represented the first real threat for either team to score in the game.
- The Bobcats finally broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning. Junior catcher Haleigh Davis reached on a single off the wall with one out. Sophomore infielder ArieAnn Bell delivered the biggest hit of the game, an RBI double through the left side of the infield. Davis scored on the play to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
- Bell hustled around third to score on an RBI double off the bat of freshman designated player Samara Lagway. The hit doubled the Texas State lead and brought the score to the final of 2-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore pitcher Meagan King (8-8) evened her record with a stellar performance for the Bobcats. She notched her second complete-game shutout of the week after pitching 7.0 innings of scoreless ball. King yielded only three hits and one walk. She fanned a couple of batters.
- Davis and Lagway each recorded 2-for-3 afternoons at the plate. Davis scored one run, while Lagway tallied one run batted in.
- The Bobcats collected seven hits in the game, three of which went for extra bases. All three extra base hits occurred in the sixth or seventh innings.
