SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team under first-year head coach
Jake Spavital will begin its 2019 season in prime time on a Thursday night in front of a national television viewing audience. The Bobcats will open the 2019 campaign with a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Texas A&M on the SEC Network Aug. 29 at Kyle Field. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31.
Â
Spavital, who served as the Aggies' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2013-15, will begin his head coaching career in 2019. Last season, the Aggies had nine victories that included a win in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in JImbo Fisher's first season at Texas A&M. This marks the third time the two schools will meet on the gridiron. The previous two were in 1919 and 2005.
Â
The Texas A&M game is the first of two games in which the Bobcats are playing in prime time on Thursday nights in front of national television audiences in 2019. Texas State also hosts ULM on ESPNU Oct. 10 at Bobcat Stadium. The kickoff time for the ULM game will be announced at a later date.
