Texas State claims rubber match, 12-2, on Sunday

MOBILE, Ala. – The Texas State softball team (11-15, 2-4 Sun Belt) bested the South Alabama Jaguars (10-15, 1-5 Sun Belt) in the rubber match of the three-game conference series by a score of 12-2 on Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

KEY MOMENTS
- Texas State scored six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning to seize control of the contest. Junior catcher Haleigh Davis started the hit-parade with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
- All three starting outfielders: senior Kennedy Cline, freshman Jordyn Smith and junior Christiana McDowell, secured RBI hits in the top of the second inning, while junior infielder Bailee Carter was credited with a sacrifice fly to score the fifth run of the frame.
- Sophomore infielder Tara Oltmann capped off the inning with an RBI double.
- The Bobcats hung another crooked number on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning to enable the run rule. TXST sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning. In total, Texas State tallied five runs on two hits, five walks, and one hit-by-pitch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Texas State registered 10 hits off South Alabama from eight different batters. All nine starters successfully reached base in the game via hit or walk.
- Sophomore pitcher Meagan King (5-8) earned the victory with a complete game. She tossed 5.0 innings and allowed two earned runs on nine Jaguar hits. King fanned three batters and did not issue a walk.
- Junior infielder Hailey MacKay reached base four times to lead the Bobcat attack. She was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two doubles, two RBI, one run scored, and two walks drawn.
- Davis finished the series with a 2-for-4 effort at the dish. She collected two runs batted in, stole one base, and scored one run.

NOTABLES
- Game three proved to be the first game in the three-game set in which the team that scored first held on for the victory. Texas State scored the initial run of the game in both game two and game three but were unable to hang on in game two.
- Texas State improves to 14-2 all-time against South Alabama. TXST has won all five series against USA, including three season sweeps.
- The 10-run win marks the largest margin of victory for either team in the series and the first time Texas State has run-ruled South Alabama.

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will return to midweek competition with a clash against Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. on March 20 from Bobcat Softball Stadium. TXST will then hit the road for a three-game weekend series against conference foe ULM from March 22-24 at ULM Softball Complex.
