MOBILE, Ala. – The Texas State softball team (10-15, 1-4 Sun Belt) dropped a defensive struggle against the South Alabama Jaguars (10-14, 1-4 Sun Belt) on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
KEY MOMENTS
- Junior outfielder
Christiana McDowell manufactured the only run of the ballgame for the Bobcats. She led off the top of the third inning with a bunt single and promptly stole second base. South Alabama committed a throwing error on her steal attempt to allow McDowell to swipe third base.
- Junior infielder
Hailey MacKay took advantage of the RBI opportunity and drove McDowell in with a single through the right side of the infield. The hit put the Cats on top, 1-0, in the top of the third.
- South Alabama scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The first two came via a two-run double off the bat of sophomore catcher Kamdyn Kvistad. A throwing error from TXST allowed the third and final run to plate.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior pitcher
Dalilah Barrera (5-3) was handed the loss. She lasted 4.2 innings and surrendered two earned runs (three total) on six hits and a pair of walks. She struck out six Jaguar batters in the setback.
- Texas State stranded eight runners as the team hit 2-for-16 (.125) with runners on base. TXST connected on just one hit in nine chances with runners in scoring position.
- Junior catcher
Haleigh Davis found herself on base three times in the contest. She was 2-for-2 at the dish with a walk drawn.
NOTABLES
- The loss is the first for the Bobcats against the Jaguars since an 8-0 defeat on April 5, 2014. Texas State had won the previous 13 matchups, including a stretch of seven-straight shutouts.
- Texas State's fourth loss of league play did not come until April 28 last season. The Bobcats opened conference play 12-0 in 2018, while the team has lost four-of-five to open Sun Belt Conference play this season.

- The Bobcats will conclude the three-game set against South Alabama with the rubber match at noon on March 17 from Jaguar Field.
