SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (1-1) bounced back to handle the Colorado State Rams (0-1) by a score of 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Senior outfielder
Kennedy Cline paced the offensive onslaught. She was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and three RBI. Junior infielder
Bailee Carter also charted a pair of hits with a 2-for-3 afternoon. She drew one walk and plated two runs.
Junior pitcher
Dalilah Barrera (1-0) picked up the victory in her first career appearance for the Bobcats. She retired the first nine batters before yielding a leadoff base hit to open the bottom half of the fourth inning. In total, she went 5.0 innings of shutout ball in the circle. She allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four. Freshman pitcher
Cassie Valdez pitched the final 2.0 innings and coughed up three runs on four hits and a walk.
Colorado State had seven players record a hit, including a two-run home run from senior outfielder Danni Klein in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Senior pitcher Bridgette Hutton (0-1) took the loss for the Rams after allowing seven earned runs on six hits and seven walks in 4.0 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Taylor Gilmore entered the game to start the fifth inning and went 3.0 innings of no-hit ball for CSU.
Before a 32-minute rain delay stalled the game, Texas State was able to get on the scoreboard with one run in the top of the first inning. The Bobcats loaded the bases on three walks. Carter drove in senior outfielder
Mari Cranek for the first run of the game on an infield single. Following the delay, TXST still had the bases loaded. Junior catcher

The Bobcats added two more in the top of the third inning on RBI singles Davis and Cline. Carter tagged her second RBI in the top of the fourth inning to give the Cats a 7-0 lead.
Colorado State found some offense in the late stages of the contest on an RBI single from senior catcher Lauren Buchanan in the bottom of the sixth and the two-run shot from Klein. The homer brought the score to the final tally of 7-3 in favor of the Bobcats.
Up next, the Bobcats will continue the 2019 Bobcat Classic on Feb. 10 with a game against the North Dakota State Bison. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
