Bobcats Visit Dartmouth to Begin East Coast Road Swing

HANOVER, N.H. – The Texas State women's basketball team (5-2), winners of four of its last five games, take to the Northeast for its first contest of the week against Dartmouth (5-3) at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Bobcats are in search of their first road victory on the campaign, and won all three games during the last homestand. The game will air on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman (play-by-play) and Lori McBride (analyst) calling the action. Jacob Pavilack will also provide live play-by-play radio coverage on 89.9 KTSW and txstatebobcats.com.

  • TXST leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks 16th nationally in scoring defense (53.3), 17th in turnovers forced per game (22.9) and 18th in turnover margin (8.0). The Bobcats also lead the SBC in steals per game (10.4) and three-point field goal percentage defense (26.3). Conversely, the Bobcat offense has the fewest turnovers in the conference (104).
  • Texas State defeated UTSA 74-69 in overtime to conclude its three-game non-conference homestand. It was the first overtime win for the Bobcats since a 65-58 triumph over UTA in 2015. The Bobcats defeated a non-conference opponent in overtime for the first time since an 84-81 win over Texas Southern in 2010.
  • The Bobcats are 5-0 at home for the first time since the 2015-16 season when they opened 7-0 in San Marcos. Texas State won four home games in November for the first time since 2005-06.
  • Texas State has held four non-conference opponents under 50 points for the first time since it held five under the mark in 2006-07.
  • The Bobcats feature three players that score in double-figures per game in sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood (10.4), senior guard Brooke Holle (10.3) and sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor (10.1).
  • Taylor's 4.9 assists per game rank first in the Sun Belt. The Dallas, Texas native is also second among league leaders in assist-turnover ratio (1.70). She is coming off a career-high 22 points (8-for-9 fg) and scored a driving layup with five seconds left in regulation to force overtime against UTSA. She has scored in double figures in three of the last four games.
  • Brooke Holle set career-highs of 12 free throws attempted, 10 made free throws and five steals against UTSA. She is the team's career leader in points (779), rebounds (427), and steals (109)
  • Bailey Holle graduated magna cum lade and earned her bachelor's degree in business administration with the completion of final exams last week. Holle was unable to walk at the graduation ceremony on Saturday, due to team travel. She will receive her diploma at the ceremony which will be conducted in the spring semester. The Austin, Texas native will begin postgraduate work next semester and pursue a master's in business administration at the McCoy College of Business.
  • Head coach Zenarae Antoine is in her ninth season and has amassed 130 wins. She is the fourth head coach in program history to reach the benchmark and is eight wins from tying Linda Sharp (1989-97) for third most victories in school history.

Last Time Out

Texas State downed I-35 rival UTSA at home 74-69 in overtime on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Bobcats featured four double-figure scorers for the first time this year in Taylor (22), Brooke Holle (19), sophomore forward Jayla Johnson (11) and Hood (10). Holle scored 16 of her points after halftime as the Bobcats won trailing at the intermission for the first time this season.

The senior class of the Holle twins improved to 3-1 in their careers against the Roadrunners.

The Bobcats shot 38% (26-for-69) from the floor, 25% (4-for-16) from three and 75% (18-24) from the foul line. UTSA connected on 46% (26-for-57) from the field, 23% (3-for-13) from downtown and was 64% (14-for-22) at the charity stripe.

Texas State continued its season-long trend of forcing turnovers as it pressured the Roadrunners into 21 miscues and held a decisive advantage in points off turnovers (21-9). UTSA did lead in points in the paint (30-28), second chance points (11-5) and fast break points (7-4). The Roadrunners had the upper hand on the glass, 47-31.

Scouting Dartmouth

The Big Green enter the matchup having won their last two games against Maine (57-41) and UMass Lowell (62-51). Dartmouth has played a rigorous schedule in December and has already played five games in the month after it took two weeks off for final exams to close November. Senior guard Annie McKenna leads the team in points per game (13.0) and assists per game (4.5). She is also one of the most rugged players in the country and ranks eighth nationally in minutes played per game (38.2). Belle Koclanes is in her seventh season as head coach at Dartmouth and is 72-103. Dartmouth was picked to finish seventh in the Ivy League's Preseason Poll.

Series History

The Bobcats and Big Green have never met on the hardwood. Texas State is 1-1 all-time against Ivy League institutions with both meetings occurring on neutral floors. The Bobcats last played an Ivy League school in 2002 and fell to Princeton, 82-81, in overtime in Waco, Texas. TXST recorded a 77-55 win over Yale in 1989 in Houston, Texas. For the first time in program history, the Bobcats are playing a game in the Granite State.
