PREVIEW-Texas State Football Travels to Appalachian State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team will look for its first win in a road game this season when the Bobcats travel to Boone, N.C. for a Sun Belt Conference contest against No. 24-ranked Appalachian State this Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1:30 p.m. (Central) in Kidd Brewer Stadium. The game will be shown on ESPN+.

SETTING THE SCENE
Texas State enters the game with a 3-7 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Sun Belt Conference contests after splitting its last two home games against South Alabama (won 30-28 on Nov. 9) and Troy (lost 63-27 on Nov. 16).
 
Appalachian State enters Saturday's game with a 9-1 overall record and 5-1 Sun Belt Conference mark. The Mountaineers have won their last two games at South Carolina (20-15 on Nov. 9) and at Georgia State (56-27 on Nov. 16).
 
BOBCAT TIDBITS
Robert Brown, Jr. rushed for a season-high 67 yards on four carries and scored his first touchdown of the season against Troy.
 
Joshua Rowland kicked two field goals against Troy. It marks the second straight game and third time this season that he has kicked multiple field goals in a game. He also had three field goals against Georgia State and South Alabama.
 
Bryan London II has registered 94 tackles this season. He needs six more tackles to reach 100 tackles in a season for the third time in his career. London enters the App State game with 435 career tackles.
 
Senior Aaron Brewer has been a constant fixture on Texas State's offensive line in the last four seasons. He enters the Appalachian State game having made 45 consecutive starts.
 
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
Appalachian State is ranked No. 22 in this week's Amway Coaches Poll, No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Mountaineers have posted road wins at North Carolina of the ACC and South Carolina of the SEC.
 
Appalachian State ranks in the top 25 nationally this season in both scoring offense (No. 11 at 38.4 points) and scoring defense (No. 21 at 19.9 points).
 
Quarterback Zac Thomas has completed 167 of 268 passes for 1,927 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions.
 
Darrynton Evans has rushed for 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns on 183 carries, giving Appalachian State a 1,000-yard rusher for the fifth straight season. Corey Sutton has caught 39 passes for 556 yards and six touchdowns.
 
Akeem Davis-Gaither leads the Mountaineer defense with 76 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception, and one blocked field goal.
 
SERIES NOTES
Texas State looks to win its first game against Appalachian State in a series that began in 2004 when both schools were in the NCAA Division I FCS ranks.
 
Since joining the Sun Belt, Texas State has played against Appalachian State three times, including the last two seasons in San Marcos.  The Bobcats suffered a 20-13 loss in 2017 and a 38-7 loss in 2018.
 
Texas State is playing at Appalachian State in a Sun Belt Conference game. The only other time the Bobcats competed there was on Nov. 5, 2016, when the Mountaineers won 35-10.
 
NEXT GAME
Texas State closes out its 2019 season on Nov. 30 when the Bobcats travel to Conway, S.C., and plays a Sun Belt Conference game against Coastal Carolina. The game kicks off at 11 a.m. (Central) and will be shown on ESPN+.
