SAN MARCOS, Texas – Hailey MacKay and
Sara Vanderford combined to drive in five runs to lead the Texas State softball team to a 10-5 comeback victory over Vernon College Friday night at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The win was Texas State's fifth straight victory this fall.

MacKay drove in three runs with a home run, single and sacrifice fly. Vanderford added a single and double for two more RBI.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Vernon took a 3-0 lead after
Dalilah Barrera surrendered a hit, a walk, and a home run.
The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the third.
Christiana McDowell began the rally when she reached first base on a bunt single. After
Bailee Carter singled to right field, McDowell advanced to third base and scored on
Eliza Eberhard's hit between the first and second base.
Vanderford drove in the second run with an RBI single up the middle. After
ArieAnn Bell walked to load the bases, MacKay hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Eberhard and tie the score at 3-3.
The Bobcats took their first lead in the game 4-3 when
Tara Oltmann grounded into a fielder's choice.
Vernon took its second lead in the game when the Chaps hit three straight singles off of Tori McCann following a Bobcat error.
However, the 'Cats responded a second time. Eberhard led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk and scored on Vanderford's RBI double down the left-field line.
Then, Bell reached first base on a single off the pitcher. She advanced to second on a passed ball. After Oltmann was walked intentionally, Texas State scored its final two runs in the inning when McDowell and Samara Lagaway a single off the pitcher to put runners at the corners. Bell advanced to 2nd on a ball in the dirt. MacKay hit an RBI single to left field. Bell scored on a passed ball. Oltmann walked.
Texas State added two more runs when
Samara Lagway and
Christiana McDowell drove in a run each by hitting into fielder's choices to give Texas State an 8-5 advantage.
MacKay hit a home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the final run in the game.
