Davis Extends Goal Scoring Streak in Draw to Trojans

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior Kaylee Davis scored a little over 10 minutes into the match to extend her goal streak to five consecutive matches. However, the Texas State soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Little Rock Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats are now 5-5-1 overall and remain on top of the Sun Belt Conference standings at 3-0-1 while the Trojans are 6-3-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Davis netted her Sun Belt leading eighth goal of the season early in the 10th minute on a counter attack. Jordan Kondikoff gained control of the ball at midfield and sent a through ball back up the middle of the LR defense. Davis outran the defender and took a shot towards the right side of frame. The goalkeeper was able to get some fingers on the ball but there was too much power on it as the ball hit the back of the netting.

TXST survived three corner kicks by the Trojans in a three minute span before its next great chance a goal. After being awarded a free kick in the 17th minute from about 25 yards out near the sideline in front of LR's bench, Sarah Everett sent the ball into the box and saw Kondikoff use her head to deflect the ball past the keeper. However, the junior midfielder was ruled to have been offside to take away the score.

In the 25th minute, Mackenzie Smith flicked a one-touch cross from Haley Groff on the left back to the left netting. The Trojan keeper made a diving stop to keep it a one-goal contest.

LR was able to draw a foul just inside the 18-yard box for a penalty kick halfway through the 62nd minute. Liesa Seifert drilled the spot kick into the left side to tie the match at 1-1.

It would be all Trojans for the rest of regulation as they outshot the Bobcats 7-0. Three were on frame in which Martin came up with big stops on all of them. Her biggest came in the 84th and 85th minutes. Doro Greulich took a shot from the right side that Martin had to dive to push the ball away from frame. On the ensuing corner kick, Seifert headed the ball toward the goal but right at Martin, who tipped the ball upwards and then caught it right before the line.

Overtime began with LR having two great chances to win the match within the first 75 seconds. Sairra Tucker's shot just 22 seconds into the extra frame went just wide of the right post. Arola Aparicio Gili followed with another great look that Martin made a diving save to keep it out.

TXST's only shot on goal in overtime was in the 99th minute. Kayla Geren got enough separation from a defender and took a rip just outside the penalty box on the right side but her attempt was right at the keeper.

Davis led the Bobcats with three shots and two on goal. Both Renny Moore and Smith took two shots apiece.

Martin made seven saves on the night to give her 169 in her career and move into fourth place in program history, surpassing Mandi Mawyer (2007-09; 166). The Midlothian, Texas native also moved pass former assistant coach and player Lauren Frazier (2010-11) for sixth in career minutes.

TXST is back on the pitch on Sunday against Arkansas State that will kickoff at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Next up for TXST is a two-match home weekend beginning Friday at 7 p.m. against Little Rock
