SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team dropped a series finale to UTSA 5-3 Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
The Bobcats (16-12-1) lost for the seventh time in their last nine outings, while the Roadrunners (15-11) secured the season series two games to one.
Â
TXST scored in the bottom of the first for the early lead, but two tallies in the top of the fourth would give the visitors the lead for good. They went on to add insurance in both the eighth and ninth innings, and the maroon and gold could only respond with two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Â
Juniors
Jaylen Hubbard and
Jonathan Ortega both finished 2-for-4 on the evening. Ortega also scored twice.
Â
Junior
Brandon Lewis (0-3) pitched 5.0 innings and left after conceding two runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked just one in the loss. Senior
Cam Baird, juniors
Seth Jordan and
Kyle Bradford, and sophomore
Zachary Leigh all saw an inning of work.
Â
Kyrell Miller (2-0) earned the victory for the Roadrunners. He gave up one unearned run on two hits in the first 3.0 innings. Andre Shewcraft was called upon to register the final out to earn his second save of the season.
Â
Tony Beam was the lone member of the visiting team with multiple hits, and he finished 2-for-4.
Â
The maroon and gold will now head to Monroe, Louisiana, for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against ULM April 6-8. First pitch of the series will be at 6 p.m. April 6.
