TROY, Ala. – The Texas State softball team (36-12, 15-4 SBC) lost a pair of one-run ballgames to the Troy Trojans (30-21, 14-10 SBC) on Saturday afternoon doubleheader at the Troy Softball Complex.
GAME 1
TROY 4, TEXAS STATE 3 (8 Inn.)
To leadoff the game,
Jaclyn Molenaar drew a full-count walk in a seven-pitch at bat and quickly advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from
Mari Cranek. Two batters later,
Ariel Ortiz singled through the left side of the infield to score Molenaar from second base.
Troy Trojans scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to gain the early advantage. After an error extended the first inning, Stephanie Snyder snuck a two-run home run over the fence in left field, giving the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
After both offenses fell quiet, the Bobcats struck in the fifth inning to knot the game at 2-2.
Hailey MacKay drew a one-out walk before being lifted for a pinch runner,
Sierra Steimel. Ortiz drew a walk to advance Steimel to second base.
Bailee Carter looped a two-out single into right field, scoring Steimel. The senior slid in just before the Trojan catcher could apply the tag at the plate.
In the extra frame,
Haleigh Davis hammered her fifth home run of the season over the left field wall. The solo blast gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning. In the home half of the frame, Troy put the first three runners on base via a dropped third strike, a single and a walk. The Trojans tied the game at 3-3 on a single to right field. After a pair of strikeouts, Troy was able to secure the game-winning run on an error by the Bobcat infield.
Randi Rupp started the game in the circle for the Bobcats. She threw 100 pitches in 7.2 innings of work. The senior allowed five hits, four unearned runs, and one walk. She struck out eight Trojan hitters in the loss.
GAME 2
TROY 1, TEXAS STATE 0
The offense struggled mightily in the second game of the doubleheader. Texas State managed just three base runners in the game, two via hit and one walk drawn. MacKay and Carter each recorded singles, Carter's coming with two outs in the second inning while MacKay singled off the center field wall in the top of the fourth.
The lone run of the game came in the home half of the second inning. Carli Kayler hit a single into center field, scoring the Trojan runner from second base ahead of the tag at home.
McKenna Fryar and
Meagan King combined to pitch six innings of five-hit softball while striking out five Troy batters. Fryar yielded the game's only run before being lifted in the bottom of the third inning.
Next up, Texas State and Troy will conclude the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon for the Troy Softball Complex. The Bobcats will look to avoid its first conference series sweep of the season.

Senior pitcher
Randi Rupp was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award on April 5, 2018. She was selected as one of 10 finalists who were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier this month. Nationwide fan voting has begun to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the
Senior CLASS Award website through May 14. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipient for softball will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women's College World Series® in Oklahoma City, May 31 through June 6.
