TROY, Ala. – The Texas State softball team (37-12, 16-4 SBC) bounced back to take down the Troy Trojans (30-22, 14-11 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
In the top of the second inning, the Bobcats scored three runs on just one hit. Both
Tara Oltmann and
Bailee Carter drew walks to leadoff the frame.
Haleigh Davis successfully advanced both runners with a well-placed sacrifice bunt.
Kennedy Cline, Texas State's next batter, reached safely on a fielder's choice bunt back to the pitcher. Troy went home on the play, but Oltmann slid in just ahead of the tag to open the scoring.
Mari Cranek laid down a bunt to advance Cline to second base ahead of
Jaclyn Molenaar. The senior looped a double into center field to score both Carter and Cline with ease.
Hailey MacKay tacked on a fourth run with a solo home run in the top of the third inning. The transfer from Arkansas leads the Bobcats with 11 home runs and 37 RBI on the season.
Randi Rupp started in the circle for the Bobcats, pitching the first five innings of the game. She allowed three hits and a walk but held the Trojans from advancing beyond second base all afternoon. The senior struck out two batters.
Meagan King entered in relief to start the sixth inning, marking her second relief outing of the series. The freshman pitched the last two innings of the game, striking out four batters.
