WACO, Texas – The Texas State baseball team earned a 6-1 triumph over the Big 12 Conference's Baylor Monday night at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bobcats (16-11-1) earned their second-straight win after snapping a six-game losing skid, while the Bears (13-13) dropped their fourth in a row.

TXST plated two runs in each of the second and third frames to take the early advantage. The visitors added insurance tallies in the fifth and seventh innings before BU was finally able to scratch a run across.

Jaylen Hubbard tied his career high with four hits and three runs scored. Classmate
Ryan Newman and seniors
Mickey Scott and
Jared Huber all finished with two hits and two RBIs. Newman also scored a pair of runs and hit his second home run of the season.

Anthony Pagano, sophomore
Broc Bosse and junior
Brayden Theriot combined for the one-run game on the mound for the Bobcats. Pagano (1-0) started and earning the win after tossing 4.0 shutout innings. He struck out three and walked two. He was credited with the win due to being on a strict pitch count. Bosse allowed one run on one hit in 3.0 frames. He also struck out three and walked two. Theriot went the final 2.0 innings and only gave up two meaningless hits in the ninth.

Nick Lofton, Andy Thomas, Cole Haring and Shea Langeliers had the four hits for Baylor. The lone run of the night for BU came on a solo home run by Langeliers.

Alex Phillips (2-1) took the loss on the mound for Baylor after conceding four runs on six hits in the first 3.0 innings. He struck out three and walked one. Jimmy Winston then gave up a run on four hits across the next 3.0 frames. Luke Boyd tossed 2.0 innings and conceded the final run on three hits.

Texas State outhit Baylor 13-4. The Bears also committed three errors to zero from the Bobcats.

The five-game week is slated to continue when the maroon and gold plays host to UTSA at 6 p.m. April 3 at Bobcat Ballpark.
