ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Texas State offense is powered by sharpshooting senior guard
Toshua Leavitt. A first team preseason all-conference selection, Leavitt averages a team-best 17.2 points per night which is the third-highest output in the Sun Belt Conference. She is coming off a season-best 25-point outing at UTSA and has reached double-figures in 13-consecutive ballgames dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Sophomore forward
Jayla Johnson has been a consistent force off the Bobcat bench this season. She is averaging 11.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per outing, both figures rank second on the team. Johnson has posted her first five double-figure scoring outputs of her career in her last five games, including a 23-point outburst in the loss against Oral Roberts. For Johnson, 23 points marked a career-best effort and the first 20-point game by a Bobcat forward since
Erin Peoples tallied 24 points against Georgia State on Feb. 14, 2015. She also netted 12 points in the victories over Nicholls and UTSA, and she scored 10 points in the loss to Montana State.
Junior guard
Brooke Holle regained some traction on the offensive end of the floor in the win over the Islanders. She scored a team-best 13 points and brought down seven rebounds for the Cats. Her 13-point effort was the most points she has scored since netting 17 in the victory over Nicholls.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE
OSU has frontloaded the non-conference portion of their schedule with teams outside of the Power-5 conferences. In the first five games of the season, the Cowgirls have taken on teams from the American Athletic Conference, the Big West, the Southern Conference, the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. Oklahoma State has won all five ballgames, four coming at home, by an average margin of 16.0 points.
The Cowgirls are led offensively by a talented duo of sophomores, guard Braxtin Miller and forward Vivian Gray. Miller, a preseason all-conference selection, averages 18.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per night. She has posted double-figure scoring outputs in four games this season, including a season-best 30 points in the win over Wichita State. Gray adds 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
Oklahoma State holds a narrow series lead, beating the Bobcats in four of the six meetings between the two schools. The Cowgirls have won the last two matchups, the most recent a 64-37 win in Stillwater. OSU was ranked No. 19 in the country at the time of the game. The last TXST victory came on Nov. 19, 2005. The Bobcats toppled the Cowgirls to open the season by a score of 77-69.
In games against current Big XII opponents, Texas State is a combined 76-21. TXST defeated Texas Tech out of the Big XII, 87-70, to open last season.
UP NEXT FOR THE BOBCATS
Texas State will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at Strahan Arena to take on St. Thomas. The Celts, an NAIA team out of Houston, enter the weekend with a 2-2 record. The Bobcats and Celts have met once before on the hardwood, an 85-45 Bobcat victory on Dec. 29, 2013.
