BOONE, N.C. – Junior
Genesis Turman knocked in a loose ball for the match's lone goal as the Texas State soccer team defeated Appalachian State 1-0 at the Appalachian State Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats improved to 7-5-1 on the season and maintain their lead atop the Sun Belt Conference standings at 5-0-1. The Mountaineers fell to 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.

Jamie Brown placed a long attempt on goal in the sixth minute but saw the APP goalkeeper come up with a stop.
Kaylee Davis followed with another attempt on goal in the eighth minute but again saw the keeper come up with the save.

APP nearly scored a few minutes later on a tight angled shot from the right side.
Heather Martin got her fingertips on it to push the ball enough that it slide past the left post.

In the 22
nd minute,
Kayla Geren sent a perfect through ball down past the Mountaineer backline for Davis. Unfortunately, the turf sped up the ball and allowed the goalkeeper to beat Davis to the ball.

A great chance for TXST came in the 35
th minute. Davis send in a cross that
Sydney Kammer was able to get to but was not able to get enough on her shot attempt to beat the keeper.

The first great look for the Bobcats in the second half came in the 59
th minute.
Jordan Kondikoff ripped a shot from the right side just inside the 18-yard box. The ball bounced off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

Pressure from APP nearly results in a goal two minutes after Kondikoff's shot. Luckily, the Mountaineer sent the ball flying over the crossbar from just three yards out.

The breakthrough for Texas State came late in the 70
th minute that began when Davis sent in a cross from the right side that the Mountaineer keeper mishandled. Kammer crashed the loose ball but her attempt deflected off a defender towards the left side of the field. Turman was there to send in a tight angled shot that hit just inside the right netting for her second goal of the season.

Appalachian State almost tied the match in the 79
th minute. Martin got her fingertips on a long range attempt to send the bar over the crossbar.

Davis nearly increased the lead in the 84
th minute when Kalen Sandefer sent a ball forward and a defender missed on trying to knock it down with her leg. Davis was able to run onto the ball for a breakaway opportunity but sent her shot slightly wide of the left post.

Kondikoff led the Bobcats with three shot attempts.
Sarah Everett, Brown and Davis all took two shots apiece.

The goalless for Davis snapped a streak of six consecutive matches of scoring a goal. Her streak ended up being the second longest in Sun Belt history.

Martin finished the night with five saves in recording her four solo shutout of the season. It was also the 10
th of her career. She is now the sixth goalkeeper in program history with double-digit shutouts in a career. The Midlothian, Texas native also moved into fifth place in career goalie minutes played with 3,406, passing Mandi Mawyer (2007-09).

Next up for the Bobcats is Georgia Southern on Sunday in Statesboro. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CDT.
