Bobcats Face Troy on the Road

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team wraps up its Sun Belt Conference road slate on Sunday at Troy. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.

TXST extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches and have won the last three following a 1-0 victory at Appalachian State and 3-0 win at Georgia Southern. Genesis Turman netted the lone goal against the Mountaineers off a mishandled cross by the goalkeeper and deflected shot from Sydney Kammer.
 
Kaylee Davis recorded her second career 5-point contest against the Eagles with two goals and one assist. The junior opened the scoring in the fifth minute and added her second goal in the 20th minute. In between, the junior sent in the long through ball that led to Kayla Geren's first collegiate tally. The Allen, Texas native's performance led to her being named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week for a record fourth time this season.
 
For the season, Davis leads the conference and is tied for sixth in the nation with 12 goals entering the weekend. Her goal total is also tied for the fourth most by a Bobcat in a season.
 
Pacing the team in assists with four is Jordan Kondikoff. The junior midfielder is also second on the squad with 22 shots and tied for second with two goals with Turman. Both Renny Moore and Mackenzie Smith have been credited with three assists. Entering the match with two assists are Kelly Barbalias, Geren, Kammer and Turman.
 
Goalkeeper Heather Martin has a Sun Belt-low 0.55 GAA, made 51 saves and sports a .910 save percentage, the eighth highest in the country. In all 13 appearances this year, she has allowed either zero or one goal.
 
Scouting Troy
Troy is coming off a 4-1 loss on Friday night against Arkansas State. The defeat dropped the Trojans to 1-5-0 when playing at home. Their two Sun Belt victories have been against Georgia Southern (2-1) and Louisiana (1-0). Troy's lone non-conference victory was the season opener at Jacksonville by a 2-0 score.
 
Kendra Cashion and Natalie Melillo have both scored a team-high three goals. Melillo is tied for the Sun Belt lead with five assists and paces Troy with 11 points and four yellow cards. Cashion has taken a team-high 24 shots and placed 17 on goal.
 
Ally Bayer has found the back of the net twice this season. Only other players with multiple assists is Lauren Aldrich and Kiersten Edlund with two apiece.
 
Acelya Aydogmus has started 11 matches in goal. She has given up 24 goals for a 2.44 GAA while making 54 saves with a .675 save percentage Haleigh Mercer has made five appearances with four starts between the posts. She comes into the match with a 2.66 GAA, 15 saves and a .556 save percentage.
 
Series vs. Trojans
Texas State holds a slim 4-3 lead in the all-time series over Troy. The Bobcats snapped a three-match skid to the Trojans with a 4-2 victory at home. That night saw Davis answer with a goal 11 seconds after Troy's opening score. Her tally was the first of three goals in an eight-minute span for TXST.
 
Oct. 16, 2016 was the last time the teams met in Troy with the Trojans winning 2-1 behind two second half goals. Turman scored the opening goal in the 17th minute off a corner kick from Kira Zapalac. When playing on the road, the Bobcats are 1-2-0 with the lone win coming in the first-ever meeting between the programs on Sept. 29, 2013 by a score of 2-1.
