Match Against Islanders Moved to Thursday, McNeese Comes to Town Sunday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Because of the threat of heavy rain on Friday, the Texas State soccer team's match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has been rescheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The Bobcats are still slated to host McNeese Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
TXST heads into the weekend with a 0-1-1 record after dropping the season opener to Northern Arizona 2-0 and playing Louisiana Tech to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
 
Brooke Ramsey scored the lone goal of the season for the Bobcats. Credited with the assists on the goal off a corner kick was Rachel Grout.
 
Entering the game with a 0.00 GAA and seven saves is Kathryn Budde. Starting the first two contests between the posts was Heather Martin, who has a 3.00 GAA with five saves. During last weekend, the Midlothian, Texas native moved up to eighth on the Bobcat career list with 66 saves.
 
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opened its season on Sunday with a 4-0 loss at Rice. The Islanders were held to four shots with Ashley Hamilton being the lone player to put one on net. Abbie Flax, a transfer from Division II Fort Hays State, made five saves on the afternoon.
 
TAMUCC is coached by Craig Shaw, who is in his first year in charge of the program. He is 104-65-14 in his career and arrived in South Texas from Fort Hays State. This year's roster features 15 freshmen.
 
In the Southland Conference's preseason poll, the Islanders were selected to finish last in the 12-team league.
 
Series vs. Islanders
TXST won both previous meetings between the programs. The last time the teams met, the Bobcats won 3-1 on the road during the 2015 season. That contest saw Kira Zapalac score the opening goal of the contest and Kassi Hormuth be credited with two assists. On Aug. 29, 2014, the programs met for the first time ever with the match taking place in San Marcos. The Bobcats were victorious 2-0 as Hormuth netted the second goal of the contest in the 61st minute.
 
Scouting McNeese
McNeese heads into the weekend with a 1-1 record after playing two 1-0 matches. The Cowgirls opened with a loss to Louisiana Tech at home before traveling to ULM and netting the lone goal of the game with 36 seconds left on the clock. Prior to facing TXST, MCN will host Louisiana on Friday. In the SLC preseason poll, MCN was selected to finish sixth in the 12-team conference.
 
Scoring the only goal this season for the Cowgirls was Havana Johnson. Getting an assist on the tally was Savannah LaRicci, who leads the team with seven shot attempts. Also taking five or more shots already this season are Rachel Palet (5), Nola Prickett (6) and Johnson (5).
 
Annie Bravenec started the season opener between the posts. She made five saves but allowed the lone goal of the match with less than six minutes to play against the Lady Techsters. Earning the shutout over the Warhawks was Emma Roccaforte, who stopped both shot attempts she faced that afternoon.
 
Series vs. Cowgirls
The all-time series is led by the Bobcats 17-9-1. They won 13 straight meetings from Oct. 29, 1999 to Nov. 3, 2005 and four consecutive contests form Nov. 9, 2008 to Oct. 21, 2011. However, MCN has won the last four matches including a 2-0 victory last season in Lake Charles, Louisiana. TXST's last win in the series came on Oct. 21, 2011 at home by the score of 2-1 in the final meeting between the programs as Southland Conference opponents. When playing the Cowgirls at home, the Bobcats hold an 8-5 record.
