Wright, a three-star prospect as graded by
ESPN Hoopgurlz, comes to Texas State from DeSoto High School where she was coached by Andrea Robinson. Wright helped lead the Eagles to a 24-12 overall record and to the quarterfinal round of the 6A Region 1 tournament as a senior. She averaged 15 points and five rebounds and six assists as a senior, while also averaging three made 3-pointers per outing. She made five threes against South Grand Prairie HS in 2017 and closed her interscholastic career making two or more triples in 120 of 130 games.
A second team All-District 6-5A selection in 2017 and first team All-District 6-5A honoree in 2016, Wright was rated the 21st-best player in Texas by
Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball Magazine as well as being named to the 2016-17
Dallas Morning News Preseason Player to Watch List. In addition, Wright was also a 2017 McDonald's All-American nominee and the 2016 Dallas Coca-Cola Tournament MVP.
Wright earned first team all-academic honors in each of her four years at DeSoto, while being recognized as an Eagles Soar recipient for ranking in the top 20 of her graduating class.
Wright's father Robert Wright played collegiate basketball at Texas A&M, helping the Aggies to the 1980 Southwest Conference championship and a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Her brother Cardell Hunter played collegiate hoops at UTA and helped the Mavericks to the 2007 Southland Conference title and a NCAA Tournament appearance, while her sister Cha'zaye Wright played collegiate basketball at UTRGV.
Antoine on Wright: "Chania will fit into our program right away. She the definition of a 'coaches kid' hard working, smart, team oriented & selfless. She is coming from a strong girls' basketball program at DeSoto High School where she played for two great longtime coaches in the Dallas Metroplex: Coach Larry Goad and more recently Coach Andrea Robinson.
"Chania has the ability to see the floor well in the open court and she is a 'classic' Texas State women's basketball player with her ability to shoot the three. We are really happy to add her to our freshman class alongside Avionne and Jayla."
