Bobcats Host UTSA In Final Midweek Contest

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State, which is receiving votes in both the NFCA and USA Softball national polls, welcomes UTSA to Bobcat Stadium at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest is the Bobcats' final scheduled nonconference game of the season.

Texas State vs. UTSA
• Texas State closes out its regular season nonconference slate on Wednesday against longtime I-35 rival UTSA at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
• Texas State is 20-5 in nonconference games this season, including 8-1 in midweek affairs (only loss was  at No. 5 Texas A&M (5-1)).
  Inside the Series
• UTSA leads the all-time series 42-39. The Bobcats are 24-22 against the Roadrunners in San Marcos, 15-17 in San Antonio and 0-3 in neutral site games.
• The squads met earlier this season at the UTSA Classic (Feb. 25) with the Bobcats claiming an 8-1 victory. Jaelyn Young homered twice and Randi Rupp tied her career-high with 14 strikeouts to lead the Bobcats to the win.
 
Last Time Out For The Bobcats
• Texas State won its fifth Sun Belt Conference series of the season, taking two of three at Georgia Southern. The Eagles won game one 2-0, but the Bobcats responded with a 9-4 win in game two and a 4-3 triumph in game three.
• Corrina Liscano led TXST at the plate in the series with a .500 average, going 3-for-5 with an RBI along with a walk, a hit by pitch and two sac bunts.
• Quincy Charleston and Randi Rupp each earned wins in the circle. Charleston won game two and Rupp game three. Rupp also sat down 20 Eagles on strikes, including 12 in game one.
 
Walk-Off Wednesdays In San Marcos
• Each of Texas State's last three midweek games have been played on Wednesdays at home. And each of those three games results in a Bobcat walk-off victory.
• On April, 5, TXST walked off against Texas in the ninth as Jaelyn Young dropped an RBI single in left to score Bailee Carter for the 2-1 final.
• The Bobcats then defeated No. 12 Baylor 1-0 on April 12 as Christiana McDowell's grounder to second scored Kennedy Cline from third in the seventh.
• Texas State made it three in a row on April 19, scoring all five of its runs in its final at-bat to defeat McNeese 5-4. Corrina Liscano played the walk-off role with a two RBI double down the left-field line.
 
Bobcats Boast The Nation's 29th RPI And The Sun Belt's Toughest Schedule
• Texas State came in 29th in the NCAA's fifth RPI release on Monday, April 24, marking the second highest RPI in the Sun Belt Conference (Louisiana is tops with an RPI of 19).
• The Bobcats have played the toughest schedule among Sun Belt members (No. 29 nationally) as TXST opponents have a combined win percentage of .573.
 
Streak Snappers
• Five of Texas State's opponents this season have entered its game(s) against the Bobcats on five-plus game win streaks only to have the streak halted by the Bobcats.
• Coastal Carolina entered the first game of the March 11 doubleheader on a 12-game win streak only to fall 3-0. Houston had won eight straight prior to suffering a 7-0 setback to TXST on March 15. South Alabama was riding a five-game win streak before being swept by TXST (April 8-9). The Bobcats ended No. 12/13 Baylor's run of seven straight wins with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday (April 12) evening. Most recently, Louisiana won the first two games of the Sun Belt series to push its win streak to 15 games, but TXST took game three 2-1 (8 inn.) to halt the Ragin' Cajuns run.
 
Texas Is Our State
• Texas State has played 12 games against teams from the Lone Star State, posting a 10-2 record. So far in 2017 the Bobcats' have defeated Abilene Christian, Texas Tech, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Incarnate Word (twice), UTSA, Texas (twice), Houston and Baylor with games against UTSA and UTA (three) still to play. The only two losses suffered by the Bobcats to Texas institutions came in the season opener against Abilene Christian (Feb. 10) and at No. 5 Texas A&M (March 29).
 
Bobcats Receiving Votes For First Time Since 2004
• In the week 11 editions of the national polls, Texas State received eight votes in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll and nine votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll.
• The Bobcats have received votes in five different weeks this season, marking the first time the program received top 25 votes since week 10 of the 2004 season.
