Bobcats Set For Sun Belt Showdown With No. 17/18 Louisiana

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State continues its season-defining stretch hosting Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana for a three-game series starting Friday, April 14. The Bobcats and Ragin' Cajuns are scheduled for a 5 p.m. / 7 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and a single game Saturday at 2 p.m.

Texas State vs. Louisiana
• Texas State hosts No. 17/18 Louisiana for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Friday and Saturday (April 14-15). The Ragin' Cajuns, who were voted first in the league's annual preseason poll, hold a two-game lead over the Bobcats in the Sun Belt standings.
  Inside the Series
• Louisiana leads the all-time series 27-3, including a 2-1 record in San Marcos, 17-2 record in Lafayette and an 8-0 mark at neutral sites.
• The Ragin' Cajuns have won seven over the Bobcats. Texas State's last win in the series came on March 28, 2015 in San Marcos by a 14-13 final.
• The teams last met on May 14, 2016 in the Sun Belt championship game, which was won 12-0 by Louisiana.
 
BOBCATS' STRIKEOUT CANCER GAME Raises More Than $400
• Texas State softball supported the NFCA Strikeout Cancer initiate on April 12 against Big 12 foe Baylor. The game, which was proudly presented by Phi Kappa Psi - Texas Gamma, featured the Bobcats wearing pink jerseys in support of the initiative. Fans wore pink to the game and donated more than $400 to Pink Heals Hays County, which champions the mission of inspiring communities to come together for the love of their people and not one specific disease or cause. Last Time Out For the Bobcats
• Christiana McDowell hit a walk-off grounder to score Kennedy Cline as Texas State defeated No. 12/13 Baylor 1-0 Wednesday evening at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
• Texas State, which is now 4-0 against Big 12 opponents this season, improved to 30-8 (11-3 Sun Belt) overall on the season. Baylor, which entered the game ranked as high as 12th in the USA Softball Top 25 poll, had its eight-game win streak snapped and fell to 35-7 (8-1 Big 12) overall.
• Moreover, the Bobcats' win marked TXST first victory in the series since 2012 and the program's first win against a ranked opponent since downing No. 24 Texas 9-5 on March 2 of last year.
• Randi Rupp, the reigning NFCA National Pitcher of the Week, continued her dominate streak with 7.0 innings of three-hit, four-strikeout work. She improved to 20-5 on the season and recorded her eighth complete-game shutout and third in as many starts.
 
27.0 Innings Of Scoreless Work
• RHP Randi Rupp has put together 27.0 innings of scoreless softball over the span of the last five games. The scoreless streak started after Texas scored an unearned run with two outs in the sixth in a game the Bobcats went on to win 2-1 in nine innings. Rupp then threw two seven-inning shutouts at South Alabama along with working 2.2 innings of scoreless relief against the Jaguars. She moved her total to 27.0 innings with her third complete-game shutout in as many outing in the 1-0 upset of Baylor.
• In addition, Rupp has not allowed an earned run in 38.2 innings, spanning across six games. The last earned run against the junior was scored by Georgia State's Morgan Brown in the top of the first on April 1.
 
Streak Snappers
• Four of Texas State's opponents this season have entered its game(s) against the Bobcats on five-plus game win streaks only to have the streak halted by the Bobcats.
• Coastal Carolina entered the first game of the March 11 doubleheader on a 12-game win streak only to fall 3-0. Houston had won eight straight prior suffering a 7-0 setback to TXST on March 15. South Alabama was riding a five-game win streak before being swept by TXST (April 8-9). Most recently, the Bobcats ended No. 12/13 Baylor's run of seven straight wins with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday (April 12) evening.
• Louisiana enters the weekend series against the Bobcats as owners of a 13-game win streak.
