SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the second straight weekend the Texas State Bobcats were able to win a pair of fall ball games.  Texas State took down Temple College in game one and squeaked out a win in the second game against Texas A&M International at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Saturday.

The Bobcat pitching staff was dealing in game one, yielding just two hits over seven innings in a 6-0 victory over Temple College.  McKenna Fryar started the game with three strong innings.  She struck out the side after giving up a lead-off single in the second frame.  She finished the game allowing just two hits while striking out four.

Meagan King came on in relief to begin the fourth inning.  She tossed four nearly flawless innings, fanning six batters in the process.  Three of her strikeouts came in the fifth inning.  The lone base runner she allowed reached after she was hit by a pitch.

The Texas State offense was held mostly in check through five innings, sprinkling in a few hits.  The bats really woke up in the sixth inning following a pitching change from Temple.  Tara Oltmann started the scoring with a three-run shot to left.  In the next frame, ArieAnn Bell led-off the seventh with a solo homer to left-center.  Oltmann delivered again, this time in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single up the middle.  The freshman closed out the morning game with a team-high five RBIs.

The pitching was lights out again in the second game of the day.  Texas State was able to shutdown Texas A&M International, winning by a score of 2-0 in seven innings.

Krista Jacobs earned the start for the Bobcats, pitching three solid innings.  The junior surrendered just two hits and one walk and did not allow a run to plate.  Randi Rupp took over to begin the fourth inning.  She looked sharp, tossing three perfect frames.  The senior recorded four punch-outs, including a streak of three straight batters.  Finally, Maria Flores came in to close the game out.  She allowed just one infield hit before recording the final out of the ball game, preserving the 2-0 victory for the Bobcats.

Offensively, Ariel Ortiz provided all of the run support the pitching staff needed.  She stepped up to bat with a runner on second and two outs in the bottom of the third inning.  She turned on an inside pitch and smashed it towards the wall in left field, the ball bounced off of the foul pole, giving Ortiz a two-run home run.

Kourtney Pock handled the bat well for TXST, going 2-for-3 with a double.  She was lifted for a pinch runner, Camryn Caruthers, in the third following her double.  Caruthers came around to score following the home run from Ortiz.

Taylor Webb drew two walks in her first two at-bats of the afternoon.  On the defensive end she was very active, making several picks on low throws towards first base.  ArieAnn Bell was substituted in late in the contest and was able to manage a single on her only plate appearance.

Texas State will be back in action on November 2nd as hosts to Team NPF, a professional softball team.  The game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Bobcat Softball Stadium.  Admission is free for the contest.
