Softball Welcomes Incarnate Word In Midweek Game Wednesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team returns to San Marcos Wednesday for a single game against Incarnate Word before hosting UL Monroe this weekend. First pitch against the Cardinals at the Bobcat Softball Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Texas State comes into the single game against the Cardinals with a 21-9 overall record. Last weekend, the 'Cats went 1-2 on the road against Georgia State. At home this season, Texas State is 7-3.
 
Senior Kelli Baker leads the Bobcats with a .355 batting average and this past week, Baker recorded three multi-hit games. She has made it on base successfully in the last 26 contests and leads the team with 33 hits. Ariel Ortiz is second on the team in batting average but leads the Bobcats with seven doubles. Corrina Liscano has hit five long balls for Texas State and is the team leader with a .480 on base percentage.
 
Randi Rupp earned her 15th victory of the season on Sunday with a 4-1 win over Georgia State. Rupp leads the Bobcat pitching staff with a 1.61 ERA and 154 strikeouts. As a whole, Rupp, Paige Williams, and Quincy Charleston combine for a 1.90 team ERA.
 
In the first NCAA RPI release, the Bobcats are sitting at No. 46. The 'Cats have received votes in the ESPN/USA Softball poll multiple times this season.
 
Head coach Ricci Woodard is in her 16th season at the helm of the Bobcat program.
 
A Look At The Competition – Incarnate Word
Incarnate Word enters into the midweek contest with a 10-17 overall record and 4-5 mark when on the road. Under the direction of Mandee Gamboa, the Cardinals are 2-4 in Southland Conference play this season.
 
Incarnate Word has five players who have played in over 20 games and that average over .300. Danielle Ramirez leads that group with a .410 average. Alex Alonzo leads the team with four home runs and is second on the team with three doubles. Ramirez also has a team-high seven stolen bases.
 
The Cardinal pitching staff owns a 5.74 ERA and is led by Sarah Leal and Bridget Stein. Leal leads the team with a 3.89 ERA and Stein has pitched in a team-high 51.2 innings. Combined the Cardinal pitchers have struck out 78 batters and their opponents own a .359 batting average against them.
 
As a team, Incarnate Word has a .276 batting average and 186 hits. Their opponents have hit 27 home runs compared to the 14 they have hit.
 
Texas State is one of three non-conference opponents left on the Cardinals schedule. Incarnate Word will play Prairie View A&M and UTSA each twice before the end of the year. The rest of the schedule features seven conference series.
