Final Regular Season Road Trip Begins Thursday For Women's Basketball

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team begins its final road trip of the regular season this Thursday with a 5:05 p.m. tip-off against Arkansas State, a game that is scheduled to be aired on ESPN3, in Jonesboro, Ark.
 
Texas State enters into the final five game stretch with a 12-13 overall record and 7-8 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Last week, the Bobcats evened the regular season series against UL Monroe Thursday night before dropping a game against UL Lafayette Saturday.
 
Against the Ragin' Cajuns, the Bobcats drained 10 3-pointers which puts them just 11 shy of matching the school record of 207 set last year. Raven Burns and Kaitlin Walla combined for seven of the 'Cats 10 3's against UL Lafayette.
 
From beyond the arc, the Bobcats are now second in the league with a mark of 35.0 percent. Texas State does rank first in total 3's with 196.
 
Texas State is currently in seventh place in the league, just half of a game behind Troy for sixth. The Bobcats are ahead of Appalachian State (5-11), Georgia State (4-12), Georgia Southern (4-12), and UL Monroe (3-13). The remaining schedule for Texas State features five of the top six teams in the league.
 
Arkansas State and Texas State have already played once this season and the Red Wolves handed the Bobcats a 74-59 setback at Strahan Coliseum on Jan. 23.
 
Head coach Zenarae Antoine is in her fifth season at the helm of the Bobcat program. She was the first coach in school history to take the team to the postseason in back-to-back years (2014 and 2015 WBI).
 
A Look At The Competition – Arkansas State
Arkansas State secured itself at least a share of the regular season SBC championship with an 85-64 victory over Georgia State Saturday afternoon. The Red Wolves are 22-3 overall and a perfect 16-0 in SBC play.
 
Aundrea Gamble scored 31 points and tied a career-high with 11 assists against the Panthers, while Khadija Brown-Haywood added 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jessica Flanery also finished with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
Teams remaining on the Red Wolves schedule including Texas State are UT Arlington, Appalachian State, and Little Rock.
 
The reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Aundrea Gamble, leads the Red Wolves with 17.8 points per game and is a 50.5 percent shooter from the field. She leads the team with 108 assists and 53 steals.
 
Khadija Brown-Haywood was most recently named the Sun Belt Conference's Student-Athlete of the Week this past week. She averages a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 17.2 points per game. Gamble and Brown-Haywood lead the Red Wolves from the charity stripe with a combined 126 free throws at a clip of 81.2 percent.
 
In the most recent mid-major poll, Arkansas State was ranked sixth behind BYU, Green Bay, Florida Gulf Coast, Princeton, and South Dakota State.
 
Brian Boyer is in his 16th season as the head coach of the Red Wolves and is a three-time SBC Coach of the Year after the 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2013-14 seasons. Boyer has also taken Arkansas State to the WNIT six times.
