SAN MARCOS, Texas – After the first victory over Little Rock since early 2014 on Thursday evening, the Texas State women's basketball has another tough test Saturday afternoon with a match-up against first-place Arkansas State. Tip-off against the Red Wolves, the only undefeated team in conference play, is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats enter the contest with a 9-7 overall record and 4-2 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, well enough for fourth place in the 11-team league.

Texas State's victory over Little Rock Thursday night was a memorable one as senior guard Ayriel Anderson scored her 1,000th career point in the fourth quarter. Earlier in the game, Anderson hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Bobcats a 33-31 halftime lead.

Anderson now has 1,000 points, 304 assists, and 151 made 3's in her Texas State career, making her the only player in school history to be in the 1000 point, 300 assist, and 150 made 3's club.

The Bobcats come into Saturday's game with a seven-game home game winning streak. This marks the longest home winning streak for Texas State dating back to the 2007-08 season. That year, Texas State finished with a 21-11 overall record.

Kaitlin Walla continues to be a consistent force for Texas State as against the Trojans, she scored a team-high 16 points. Walla leads the team with 12.4 points per game and she has had 11 games this season with at least 10+ points.

The Bobcats are 1-4 all-time against the Red Wolves with the lone victory coming last season on Texas State's Senior Day. Texas State jumped out with a big halftime lead and held on for the 83-74 victory over the Red Wolves last February.

A Look At The Competition – Arkansas State
Under the direction of Brian Boyer, the Arkansas State Red Wolves are off to a 13-3 start, the best start since 1996-97 when the team started 15-3 that year. The Red Wolves are coming off of a 78-71 victory at UT Arlington where senior Khadija Brown-Haywood scored a career-high 29 points.

This season, the Red Wolves only losses to Florida, Nebraska, and UT Chattanooga have combined for just 13 points. Due to its successes this season, Arkansas State is ranked 10th in Graham Hays ESPN Mid-Major Poll.

Another senior, Aundrea Gamble, is one of 30 finalists among Division I women's basketball players to be named as a candidate for the 2016 Senior Class Award. Gamble leads the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game. She is closely followed by Brown-Haywood with 16.8 per game.

The perfect 7-0 conference record by Arkansas State also reflects a seven-game winning streak for the Red Wolves. It is the ninth time in school history that A-State has had a winning streak of seven games or longer.

Last season, the Red Wolves fell in the SBC Championship game to Little Rock, but earned a berth in the Women's National Invitational Tournament. A-State won in the first round against Western Michigan before bowing out against Middle Tennessee in the next round.

The Red Wolves were picked to finish first in the Sun Belt Conference and Gamble was selected as the Preseason Student-Athlete of the Year. She is the reigning two-time S-AOY.

Boyer is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Red Wolves, where he has compiled a 285-226 overall record.
