Soccer Extends Winning Streak To Seven With Overtime Win Sunday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team won its second conference match of the weekend Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 overtime victory against Arkansas State. Senior Lynsey Curry secured the win for the Bobcats with the deciding goal in the 92nd minute.
 
With the victory, Texas State extends its winning streak to seven matches and is now 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play and 8-2 overall. The victory also marked the first win of the season for when the Bobcats trail at the half.
 
Arkansas State got the scoring started just before halftime when Jaymee Luke converted a shot into the right side of the goal off of a throw in in the 44th minute.
 
Curry continued her hot start to conference play with a header in the 51st minute to equalize the score at 1-1.
 
In the 81st minute, Arkansas State regained the lead when Jordan Adams headed home a goal off of a throw in from Kassie Flynn. The Bobcats quickly answered to tie the match in the 83rd minute when Lauren Prater broke away and landed a shot in the top left corner of the goal to bring the score to 2-2. The goal was Prater's eighth of the season and first of conference play.
 
After playing 104 minutes on Friday, Texas State entered its second-straight overtime match. The winning goal came just two minutes into overtime when Curry won a battle for the ball and buried her second goal of the match. Prater assisted the shot that struck the back right of the net.
 
Caitlynn Rinehart pulled in four saves and earned her eighth victory of the season. She played all 92 minutes of the match. The Bobcats finished the contest outshooting the Red Wolves, 21-11, and in all, Texas State had 14 corners compared to just four by the Red Wolves.
 
The Bobcats will now take next Friday evening off before traveling to Appalachian State Sunday afternoon. Kick-off against the Mountaineers is scheduled for 12 p.m. central time.
