SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a single game non-conference trip to Austin to take on the Longhorns of Texas, the Texas State softball team returns to the Bobcat Softball Stadium for another Big 12 non-conference match-up against the Baylor Bears on Wednesday evening. Wednesday's game marks the annual Strikeout Cancer game where fans are encouraged to wear pink and help support the ongoing research dedicated to fighting cancer.

The softball team continues to have t-shirts and hats on sale. In honor of Coach
Ty Harrington's continuing battle with cancer, proceeds will be donated on his behalf to the David Gish Fund. Gish, a long-time athletic trainer at Texas State, lost his battle with cancer in the fall of 2014. For information regarding the t-shirts and hats, please

First pitch against the Bears is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcasted on KBVO. Wednesday's game is the first of two Texas State softball games to see time on air at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

A Look At The CompetitionLast season, the Lady Bears made it to the semi-finals of the 2014 WCWS in Oklahoma City, Okla. Baylor is currently ranked No. 14 in the nation and has an overall record of 27-7. Baylor is coming off of a sweep against conference rival, Texas Tech.

Earlier this season, Baylor defeated No. 16 Arizona and split with No. 1 Oregon.

Sophomore Lindsey Cargill leads the Baylor offense with a .414 batting average, 41 hits, 25 runs, and 21 stolen bases. Cargill has started in all 32 of her game appearances and has one home run on the season. Freshman Shelby Friudenberg leads the team with eight home runs and carries a .371 batting average.

Heather Stearns carries the Baylor pitching staff with 143 strikeouts over 109.1 innings of work. Stearns is 12-5 on the season, starting 18 of her 25 game appearances. The junior from Plano, Texas, has been a key part of the Baylor defense since her freshman year, sharing time in the circle with former teammate and USA pitcher, Whitney Canion.

Bobcat TidbitsTexas State enters Wednesday's contest with a 22-17 overall record after defeating Incarnate Word in a 1-0 shutout last Wednesday and falling in a pair of contest to No. 25 Texas. The Bobcats held a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning in Austin before Texas rattled off five hits and three runs to come away with the victory.

Against Incarnate Word, freshman pitcher
Randi Rupp threw her nation-leading eighth shutout of the season. She currently leads the conference in innings pitched (179.1) and strikeouts (208). As of Monday afternoon, Rupp ranked sixth in the country in total strikeouts.

This past week, the Bobcats launched three more home runs, putting their total up to 48. Eleven more home runs and the 2015 squad will match the all-time season hit of 59 hit in 2003.

Kendall Wiley and
Kortney Koroll lead the team with career-high nine home runs apiece. Koroll launched nine last season while Wiley hit six.

As a team, the Bobcats continue to average just shy of .300 with a mark of .290. If the season were to end today, this Texas State squad would set the school record for batting average in a season. Texas State is led by Wiley who owns a .397 batting average and .655 slugging percentage.
