SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball will wrap up the 2014-15 home slate this Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest against Arkansas State. The Bobcats will recognize three players,
Meghan Braeuer,
Jacqueline Jeffcoat, and
Kileah Mays in a senior day recognition beginning at 1:45 in Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats enter the contest with a 15-11 overall record and 10-7 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. In the 11 team league, Texas State is currently sitting alone in fourth place with a game lead over UL Lafayette and UT Arlington.
Saturday's contest is the fifth all-time meeting between the Red Wolves and the Bobcats, with Arkansas State holding a 4-0 advantage.
A Look At The CompetitionArkansas State comes to San Marcos with a 19-8 overall record and 14-3 mark in SBC play. The Red Wolves currently sit in second place in the Sun Belt Conference, just one and a half games behind the league leader UALR.
Aundrea Gamble leads the Red Wolves this season with 19.8 PPG and a 47.4 percent showing from the floor. She has been regarded as an All-America candidate the entire season after she was named SBC Player of the Year in 2013-14 and Preseason SBC Player of the Year this year. She ranks 34
th in the NCAA in points per game and 43
rd in assists per game.
Khadi Brown-Haywood, Jasmine Hunt, and Hanna Qedan all average in double digits for head coach Brian Boyer. Jasmine Hunt leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game.
Arkansas State is second in the conference in points per game with 71.5 PPG and first in field goal percentage with a team average of 45.6 percent.
Boyer is currently in his 16
th season at the helm of the Red Wolves. In his time at Arkansas State, Boyer has become the all-time wins leader in the Sun Belt Conference. The 2013-14 season was perhaps the best of Boyer's historic career at A-State. The Red Wolves finished with a 22-12 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. It was the first time in school history that the Red Wolves had captured the regular-season Sun Belt Conference title.
As a result of last year's efforts, the Red Wolves were selected first in the SBC preseason poll.
Bobcat TidbitsJunior guard
Erin Peoples recorded a career-high 15 rebounds against Troy on Thursday evening. She also scored a team-high 16 points, putting her now 54 points away from 1,000 points in her career.
Taeler Deer also scored double-digit points for the Bobcats against Troy to help lead the Bobcats. Deer scored 13 points in 25 minutes of action.
Peoples and
Ayriel Anderson are quickly moving up the all-time lists at Texas State. Anderson, is now sixth all-time in three-pointers made with 123. One more made three's and she will move up into the top five all-time.
Peoples has now moved into third all-time in blocked shots at Texas State and if she records two more, she will move into second. She also currently sits ninth on the all-time steals chart at Texas State with 153.
Texas State was picked to finish third in the SBC after finishing in a tie for third-place last season. The Bobcats look to improve upon last season's semifinal finish at the conference tournament and first-ever WBI appearance, the first postseason appearance for Texas State since the 2008 season.
This preseason, juniors Peoples and Anderson were both chosen to All-SBC Preseason Teams. Peoples, a 6-0 guard from Little Rock, Ark., was named to the First-Team while Anderson, a 5-3 guard from Irving, Texas, was named to the Third-Team.
