SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team celebrated Senior Day on a high note as the Bobcats concluded conference play with a 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon. Texas State finishes the regular season with a 12-5 overall mark and 6-3 record in the Sun Belt Conference.
In just the first minute and a half of the contest, senior
Lynsey Curry put the Bobcats up with her 10
th goal of the season. Curry received a pass from the right side from
Brooke Ramsey and stuffed it in the back right corner of the net for the early 1-0 lead.
It wasn't until the second half of play when the match started to get interesting. In the 62
nd minute, Georgia Southern connected on a defensive miscue by the Bobcats to equalize the match at one. Just 10 minutes later,
Lauren Prater scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season after a cross by
Kassi Hormuth. Prater now has a team-high 12 goals on the season.
The Bobcats struck again five minutes later after a corner kick by
Brooke Ramsey. Ramsey served in the ball from the right corner and it deflected off of
Maddie Nichols for a one touch to
Clarissa Leon for what proved to be her second goal of the season.
Texas State finished the match with 10 shots while allowing just six by the Eagles. Senior
Caitlynn Rinehart finished the day with two saves and the Bobcats recorded six corners on the day.
With the Appalachian State loss to Georgia State earlier in the afternoon, Texas State has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. A complete bracket will not be released until Wednesday afternoon as the UL Monroe and UL Lafayette match has been delayed due to excessive rain.
