ATLANTA – Two first half goals by the No. 6 Georgia State Panthers proved to be too much to overcome for the No. 3 Texas State soccer team as it fell 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Wednesday evening.

Georgia State capitalized early in the contest against the Bobcats as a tackle inside the box resulted in a foul and a penalty kick for the Panthers. Suzanne Arafa converted on the PK to take the early 1-0 lead against Texas State. It was the first PK allowed this season by the Bobcats.

Throughout the first half Texas State maintained the majority of the possession, but long, deep balls into the box by Georgia State resulted in several quick offensive attacks for the Panthers. In the 27
th minute, Georgia State struck again with its second and eventual game-winning goal of the contest.

The Panthers had another opportunity to score at the end of the first, but senior goalkeeper
Caitlynn Rinehart made a key save to stop the first half scoring for Georgia State.

Texas State finished the first half with six shots, three of which were on goal.

Lynsey Curry cut the Panther lead in half in the 64
th minute on a header at the six-yard box. She was fed in a ball from
Taylor Allen on the right side for her 11th goal of the season.

Texas State played catch-up for the remainder of the contest and was unable to get that second goal needed to tie up the match. With about five minutes remaining in regulation,
Landry Lowe had a corner kick that bounced around in the box for several seconds, but the Panthers cleared it out to hold on to the lead.

The Bobcats finished with nine total shots compared to 10 by the host Panthers.

Texas State finished the 2015 season with a 12-6-0 overall record and a 6-3 conference mark in its third season as a member of the Sun Belt.
