SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team continues its home stand Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. contest against Sun Belt Conference newcomer Appalachian State. The basketball doubleheader (men's and women's) will be televised on KBVO.

The Bobcats are currently riding on a two-game winning streak heading into Saturday's match-up after earning victories against UT Arlington and Georgia Southern earlier this week. The Bobcats are 11-7 overall and 6-3 in the SBC, good enough to be sitting in fourth place.

A Look At The Competition
Conference newcomer Appalachian State comes into Saturday's contest with a 9-8 overall record and 4-4 mark in the SBC. The Mountaineers are most recently coming off of a 70-59 victory over South Alabama Thursday evening.

A key victory for the Mountaineers include a 70-69 victory over preseason favorite Arkansas State earlier this season in Boone, N.C. Other conference victories for Appalachian State include a second game against South Alabama and UL Lafayette.

Maryah Sydnor, an All-SBC Preseason First-Team selection, leads the Mountaineers with 18.5 PPG and 9.4 RPG. She has recorded a quarter of both the team's total points and total rebounds this season. In addition, she is amongst team leaders in assists and steals and is the team leader at the line with 88-of-104 FT made.

Katie Mallow is also a leader for Appalachian State as she is averaging 11.7 points per game. She has made a team-high 27 three-pointers and is second on the team in steals with 19.

The Mountaineers were picked to finish eighth in the SBC. Appalachian State is under the direction of Angel Elderkin, a longtime assistant coach in the Southeastern Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, and Big East, who is currently in her first year at the helm of the Mountaineers.

Bobcat Tidbits
Junior guard Ayriel Anderson rattled off a floor-high and season-high 21 points in the 67-57 victory over Georgia Southern Thursday evening. The Bobcats have now defeated the Eagles in both match-ups this season.

With two made three's against Georgia Southern, Anderson is now just one three-pointer shy of moving into seventh all-time at Texas State.

With 11 points and 11 rebounds, junior center Kileah Mays recorded her third double-double in the victory against Georgia Southern.

The Bobcats also had their best performance from the charity stripe Thursday evening, going 13-for-15 for the night. Texas State also went 6-for-13 from beyond the arc for a mark of 46.2 percent.

Texas State was picked to finish third in the SBC after finishing in a tie for third-place last season. The Bobcats look to improve upon last season's semifinal finish at the conference tournament and first-ever WBI appearance, the first postseason appearance for Texas State since the 2008 season.

This preseason, juniors Peoples and Anderson were both chosen to All-SBC Preseason Teams. Peoples, a 6-0 guard from Little Rock, Ark., was named to the First-Team while Anderson, a 5-3 guard from Irving, Texas, was named to the Third-Team.

The Bobcats are led by head coach Zenarae Antoine who is currently in her fourth season at the helm of Texas State.
