Curry's Goals Lift Bobcats Past Red Wolves

Story Links

JONESBORO, Ark. – After Arkansas State tied the game up with just over five minutes remaining, Lynsey Curry scored her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 87th minute to lift the Texas State soccer team over the Red Wolves by a score of 2-1. The Bobcats improved to 6-3-1 overall and now own a perfect 1-0-0 record in Sun Belt Conference play after the victory on Friday afternoon.

Curry's goal in the 87th minute was assisted by Tori Hale as Hale passed the ball to Curry just in front of the goal.  With the assist, Hale has tied the all-time career assist record with 17. She currently shares that record with Curry's older sister, Britney, who played for head coach Kat Conner from 2007-10.

Curry put the first spark in the Bobcat offense in the 13th minute as her second shot of the contest hit the right post, just inches away from putting the Bobcats on the board.

The Bobcats recorded their first shot on goal in the 31st minute with a shot by Lauren Prater.

After the first half, the Bobcats recorded six total shots while the backline prevented Arkansas State from firing off a single shot.

Within the first minute of the second half, the Bobcats fired off two shots including one that hit the cross bar by freshman Kassi Hormuth.

The Bobcats had another opportunity to score in the first five minutes of the second half as Arkansas State committed a foul just outside of the box. Curry's initial kick was passed into Hormuth who hit the post on the right side. Senior Jourdan Brown then followed up the rebound with a shot that was ultimately saved.

Curry led all players on the field with five shots, of which three of those were on goal. In Rinehart's sixth victory of the season, she recorded two saves for the Bobcats. The Bobcats finished the contest with 17 total shots, eight shots on goal, and three shots that either hit the cross bar or the right post. Arkansas State was limited to just five shots for the entirety of the contest.

This was also the second time in Curry's career where she scored more than one goal for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats will continue the Arkansas road trip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest against UALR. The Trojans have started the season with a perfect 9-0-0 record coming into the contest tonight against Appalachian State. Live stats and live video will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com.
