SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team had its best round of the season, Wednesday afternoon, carding a 291 in the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, Colo., to finish in eighth.
Leading the way for Texas State was Maty Monzingo who posted a 1-under-par 71, one shot off her career-low of 70 shot last season. Monzingo had it to as low as 4-under-par thanks to an eagle on the par-five 15th.
One shot behind Monzingo was Lora Assad who had an even-par 72. Assad used four birdies on her round, including three in a five-hole stretch on the back nine.
Texas State's top finisher overall was Ali Cowan who finished in a tie for 18th. She shot a final round 75, and finished with a three-round total of 223.
As a team, the Bobcats finished ahead of Nebraska, Lamar and I-35 rival UTSA. Texas State was just four shots behind seventh place TCU.
Texas State will have a week off before heading to the OU Invitational on Oct. 4-6, in Norman, Okla.
