SAN MARCOS, Texas –
The Texas State soccer team fell in a heartbreaker on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-2 to UTSA. The Bobcats and the Roadrunners came into the final three minutes of the contest at a 1-1 tie before a UTSA goal in the 88th minute and a Texas State goal in the 89th minute forced the squads into overtime.

Texas State falls to 4-2-1 on the year.

In the 32nd minute of the contest, sophomore Madi O'Neal put the Bobcats on the board first with a shot that deflected off of a UTSA defender into the Roadrunner goal. Despite not earning her first goal of the season due to the own goal, O'Neal and Lauren Prater were key in putting a spark in the to the Bobcat offense in the first half.

Texas State finished the first half with three shots while UTSA tallied six. Rinehart made four saves in the first half.

UTSA tied it up in the 53rd minute on a routine shot to the right side of the net.

Texas State proceeded to gain control of the second half, firing off a total of 13 shots compared to just five by the Roadrunners.

One of the key opportunities that the Bobcats fell just short on was in the 76th minute, when freshman Kassi Hormuth managed to pull the goalkeeper out of the box. Hormuth's shot, however, hit off of the cross bar, saving UTSA from falling behind 2-1.

In the 88th minute, UTSA's Anka Grotle scored her first goal of the season after receiving a pass from the left side that went to the left side of the net.

UTSA's goal fired up the Bobcat offense, as 21 seconds later Ali Jones launched a shot from the right side to tie up the game, 2-2. Tori Hale was credited with the assist, putting her just one assist shy of tying the all-time program record for assists in a career. UTSA then put the nail in the coffin just less than three minutes into overtime, as Jenny Trommer was presented with a one-v-one situation that ended in favor of the Roadrunners.

Caitlynn Rinehart finished the game with five saves and Lynsey Curry led all players on the field with eight shots.

The Bobcats will continue their home stand next week with a pair of contests against Prairie View A&M and Texas. Texas State will take on the Panthers at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and the Longhorns at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats, live video and live audio will be available at txstatebobcats.com.
