LAFAYETTE, La. – After holding a 3-1 lead through the top of the sixth inning, the Texas State softball team ultimately fell in the series finale to No. 20 UL Lafayette by a score of 8-3 on Sunday afternoon.

With a tie ball game in the top of the fifth inning, junior
Courtney Harris hit a two-run shot to give Texas State (19-18, 2-4 SBC) its second lead of the game.

Back-to-back hits in the top of the second by
Kortney Koroll and
Katie Doerre were the first recorded hits of the game as UL Lafayette (25-6-1, 6-0 SBC) quickly found themselves in a hole with runners on second and third with no outs. With one out, the Ragin' Cajuns starter Christina Hamilton walked
Kendall Wiley and
Coralee Ramirez to score the first Bobcat run of the game. UL Lafayette worked out of the jam as Texas State stranded three runners in the inning.

The Ragin' Cajuns recorded their first hit of the game in the bottom of the third with a line shot at pitcher
Rayn House. The Bobcats worked out of the jam with runners on first and second with a ground ball to Masek for the third out of the inning.

After being held scoreless for three innings, UL Lafayette tied the ball game up in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot to center field by Samantha Walsh.

In the top of the fifth,
Kelli Baker got the Bobcat bats rolling again as she hit a line drive single to centerfield. Just two batters later with one out and Baker standing on third after a sac bunt and a wild pitch, junior
Courtney Harris connected on a pitch and sent it over the left field fence to give Texas State a 3-1 lead.

Texas State proceeded to hold UL Lafayette scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, holding on to its two-run lead. It was then in the bottom of the sixth inning that UL Lafayette put up seven runs on six hits to take an 8-3 lead over the Bobcats.

Koroll led the Bobcats at the plate as she went 2-for-4. Doerre, Harris, and Baker each collected the other three Bobcat hits.
Kaylee Garner collected the loss after relieving
Rayn House in the sixth inning.

The Bobcats will remain on the road this week as they travel up the road to Texas on April 2 before returning to the Bobcat Softball Stadium for a three-game, conference series against No. 7 South Alabama next weekend.
