Game Notes

SAN MARCOS, Texas –
The second-place Texas State women's basketball team hits the road this weekend to travel north to Jonesboro, Ark. to challenge first-place Arkansas State Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats are coming off of a 63-61 home victory over South Alabama while Arkansas State enters the contest following a 73-47 rout over UT Arlington.

A Look At The Red Wolves
With a 17-9 overall record and 11-3 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, the Arkansas State Red Wolves are in sole possession of first-place in the league. The three conference losses for the Red Wolves were against Georgia State, Troy, and most recently UL-Lafayette. Against the Ragin' Cajuns, Arkansas State had the lead with 17 seconds to go, but UL-Lafayette answered with six seconds on the clock to go up two on a three-point play. The Red Wolves proceeded to draw a foul with 0.1 seconds on the clock, but missed the back half of the two shots from the charity stripe to fall to UL-Lafayette by a score of 77-76.

In the second conference game of the season, Arkansas State made the trip down to San Marcos to take on the Bobcats. Texas State held a 44-39 lead at the half, but a big second half by the Red Wolves propelled them to a 16-point victory at Strahan Coliseum. Jessica Flanery had the best night of her conference season against the Bobcats, scoring 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the three-point line.

Aundrea Gamble leads the Red Wolves offensively, averaging 18.3 points per game. Three addition Red Wolves are averaging double-digits in Jane Morrill (12.2), Hanna Qedan (11.1), and Jalen O'Bannon (10.9). O'Bannon leads the team in rebounding, snagging 7.2 per game.

Arkansas State is under the direction of Brian Boyer, who has been at the helm of the Red Wolves for the past 14 seasons. He has become the winningest coach in Arkansas State women's basketball history along with the winningest basketball coach to ever pace the sideline at Arkansas State. Prior to this season, Boyer had 226 victories under his belt in Jonesboro including 123 Sun Belt Conference victories.

Bobcat Tidbits
With her fourth game with at least 17 points out of the last five, sophomore guard has been pacing the Bobcat offense through the month of February. Anderson has recorded a career-high 19 points twice in the last five games, first in the win against UL-Monroe and then most recently against Georgia State. She is now averaging 9.1 points per game which puts her third on the team.

Texas State travels to Arkansas State with a 9-4 conference record while going 6-1 over the last seven games. The lone loss in the month of February came against Georgia State last Monday. The Bobcats have since recovered, picking up the victory over South Alabama.

The five-game winning streak the Bobcats maintained control of prior to the Georgia State game was the longest winning streak since the 2007-08 season and longest of head coach Zenarae Antoine's tenure.
