Women's Hoops To Participate In Hatter Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas – To conclude the 2014 non-conference schedule, the Texas State women's basketball team preps to take on Bethune-Cookman and Stetson in the Stetson Hatter Classic scheduled to take place December 19-20 in Deland, Fla. The Bobcats will take on Bethune-Cookman Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT before playing Stetson Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.

A Look At The Competition
Bethune-Cookman
The Wildcats enter Friday's contest with a 3-8 overall record with victories against Lynn, Edward Waters, and Savannah State.
 
Kendra Cooper is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, averaging 13.5 points per game. Kailyn Williams and Kayla Crawford lead the team on the boards, snagging 6.1 and 6.0, respectively.
 
Bethune-Cookman is coached by Vanessa Blair-Lewis who is currently in her seventh season at the helm of the Wildcats. Blair-Lewis lead the 2013-14 Wildcats to its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament victory since 2010.
 
This season, the Wildcats were picked to finish seventh in the MEAC behind preseason favorite North Carolina A&T, Hampton, Savannah State, Coppin State, Howard, and Florida A&M.
 
This marks the first all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Bobcats.
 
Stetson
The Stetson Hatters enter the tournament weekend with a 7-3 overall record with victories that include Bethune-Cookman, Indiana State, and UCF. The Hatters will first play Campbell on Friday afternoon before facing off against the Bobcats on Saturday.
 
As members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Stetson Hatters have four members of their team who are averaging double-digit points per game. Leading the way is Jama Sharp with 13.6 PPG, followed by Brianti Saunders with 13.5 PPG, Myeisha Halle with 13.3 PPG and Amber Porter with 12.4 PPG. In addition to scoring 12.4 points per game, Porter leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per contest.
 
In its most recent contest, Stetson fell to Florida by a score of 59-54.
 
The Bobcats and the Hatters have faced off against each other just one other time in program history. On November 17, 2000, Stetson defeated Southwest Texas by a score of 81-60.
 
The Hatters are coached by Lynn Bria, a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference champion as a head coach, who is currently in her seventh season at the helm of the Stetson women's basketball program.
 
In 2013-14, the Hatters set a school-record for most victories in a single-season with 27. Stetson also won a school-record 16 conference games and won a school-record 16 consecutive contest during the regular season. Stetson also earned its second-ever bid to the WNIT last season.
 
Stetson was picked to finish second in the 2014-15 Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches' poll behind Florida Gulf Coast.
 
Bobcat Tidbits
With 22 points against Texas A&M Commerce, senior guard Meghan Braeuer tallied her second career 20+ points contest after knocking down 24 against Texas Tech on November 18. In the victory on Sunday, Braeuer knocked down five three-pointers to add to her conference-leading total of 27. The Belton, Texas native is currently third in the country in three-pointers per game and eighth in three-point percentage.
 
As a team, the Bobcats are also hitting national lists as they come in at No. 8 in three-point field goal percentage with a mark of 40.4 percent. That mark is also good enough to lead the Sun Belt Conference by almost three percentage points over Georgia State.
 
Junior guard Erin Peoples continued to be a spark for the Bobcats as she tallied her eighth career double-double Sunday afternoon with 18 points and 10 rebounds. It was the 32nd time in her career she has scored more than 10 points and 15th time that she has recorded at least 10 rebounds.
 
Ayriel Anderson continues to work her way up the all-time charts at Texas State as she now has 87 career three-pointers. The Irving, Texas native is a 34.4 percent career three-pointer shooter and is five three-pointers away from moving into ninth all-time.
 
The Bobcats enter this weekend's tournament with a 4-3 overall record after most recently earning the win over Texas A&M Commerce.
 
Head coach Zenarae Antoine is currently in her fourth season at the helm of the Bobcats.
 
In the Sun Belt Conference preseason polls and nominations, Peoples, a 6-0 guard from Little Rock, Ark., was named to the First-Team while Anderson, a 5-3 guard was named to the Third-Team. Texas State was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference by the league coaches.
