SAN MARCOS, Texas – It has been a whirwind these past few months for Texas State women's golf alum Krista Puisite. In June, Puisite found out she was a cast member for this season's Big Break Myrtle Beach which premiers tonight at 8 p.m. central on the Golf Channel, and will be on every Tuesday, until the show's finale.
Puisite is one of 12 contestants, six males and six females, who are vying for a grand prize of competing in a professional tournament. If a man wins, he will compete in the 2015 Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour and if a woman wins she will compete in the Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour.
The series was shot in June at four courses at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The courses include The Dye Course, The Fazio Course, The Love Course and Pawleys Plantaion. This was not Puisite's first trip to Myrtle Beach as the team competed in the 2011 Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at Caledonia Golf Course, where Puisite shot 224 for the week.
Aside from her recent television competition, Puisite also achieved another milestone last week, when she reached Stage 3 of LPGA Q-School Qualifying, which is needed to get her full-time playing card. She shot three straight rounds of 2-under-par 70, to finish the tournament at 1-over-par, 289, in a tie for 32nd. Caddying for Krista last week was her sister Mara, who played for Texas State last year and was the co-champion at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
During her time at Texas State, Puisite was an All-American after winning three tournaments during her career. She finished her senior year in 2013, ranked as the No. 14 player in the country and had 14 rounds of par or better, including four rounds in the 60's.
Puisite owns nearly all the Texas State records including the all-time Texas State career scoring record with an average of 74.69 as well as single season scoring average with a score of 72.36 two strokes better than the next closest competitor. She also owns records for most rounds of par or better in a season (14), average rank on a leaderboard (94th percentile), birdies (119) par 4 scoring (4.10), par 5 scoring (4.83), low round vs. par (-5), low 54-hole total (209), low 54-hole vs. par (-7), wins (3), rounds of par or better (31), rounds played (126), career finish percentage (78.5%) and career birdies (319).
